Dovetail Games to bring Orbx add-ons to Steam
      Thursday 7th May 2015

Dovetail Games, the multi award-winning developer and publisher of a range of simulation games recently announced that it has agreed a partnership with flight simulation software publisher and developer Orbx Simulation Systems.

The partnership will enable Dovetail Games to publish new and existing Orbx add-on content for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition on Steam. Under this agreement, brand new Orbx content released by Dovetail Games will have a 90-day exclusivity period on Steam before being made available on other channels.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the upcoming Orbx releases for FSX: Steam Edition are optimized specifically for the Steam platform. This high-quality scenery will feature an automatic installation process via Steam, and will be completely self-contained without any dependencies on previous releases from Orbx.

CEO John Venema said, “We're thrilled to be partnering with Dovetail Games, and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship. My meetings with the team were friendly, positive and productive and I believe there are many exciting opportunities ahead for us.”

Tim Gatland, Chief Technology Officer at Dovetail Games added, “Orbx is highly respected in the flight simulation community and we are delighted to be able to work together in partnership to bring their scenery to Steam.”

        Active Sky Next

        ASN SP3 Open Beta

        Hello everyone!

We're opening up beta testing of SP3, which will be the name of the next scheduled official update for Active Sky Next for FSX and P3D.

Our focus of SP3 thus far has been on reducing or eliminating some of the remaining issues that a few users have experienced, related to improper path selection, multiple simulator installations, invalid simulator installations and more. We plan to add some additional improvements and tweaks to further improve the performance and overall experience of ASN during the best test period.
Install the update over the top of your existing installation. If you need to revert back to the latest official version, uninstall ASNext then install the desired version (full version) from our downloads page. Please remember, ASNext SP3 and all newer builds are compatible only with the latest versions of the support simulators. For Prepar3D this means 2.5+.

To report a bug or provide general feedback, please first search our bugs subforum for existing threads, or create a new thread and provide as much information as possible. A full log export is very helpful (ASN Tools -> Export Logs).

This may be old news to most but ORBX & Steam have "partnered" to do an exclusive for Steam. Steam is going to produce their own FlightSim in the near future and are currently going to the community asking what they would like to see in the upcoming version 1. I questioned one of the creators of the new edition and asked if they were going to phase out the FSX version replacing it with the new Sim and was given a corporate answer, "We at Steam will continue to support FSX as we have in the past" Well the interpretation is up to you I guess. Now my question is "ow much support have you given it in the past?"

Another Beta is Up for 48 Hours, if u wanna test.... : DTG_Martin [Entwickler] Vor 5 Stunden
FSX: SE open beta now live [Official]
This open beta for the latest Microsoft FSX: Steam Edition update is now live. The beta is open to all owners of FSX: SE and will run for 48 hours until 27th August 2015.

Last week, we released an update for Microsoft FSX: Steam Edition to our players. A small percentage of you reported some errors relating to duplicate entries being made in the scenery.cfg file. We are running this beta to request help from the FSX: SE community in order to investigate this potential error. The data we collect from players in the beta will greatly help us in supplementing our own internal testing. The more data we collect, the better we can understand the situation and get this update released.

Additional information on the previous release can be found here: https://fsxinsider.com/fsx-steam-edi...vious-version/

Important notice: This beta build of FSX: SE is suspected to contain an error whereby scenery content is listed twice due to formatting problems in the scenery.cfg file. The purpose of this open beta is to collect data about this error. Although we do not believe that the error has any effect on gameplay, it is possible that your copy of FSX: SE may stop working as a result of installing the beta. This can rectified by reinstalling the game from Steam, however you may also have to reinstall your add-on content too, including boxed add-ons. If you have any concerns regarding this process or do not feel confident in reinstalling your copy of FSX: SE we ask that you do not to take part in this beta.

If you are using a large number of add-ons or you have modified/customised your game setup, we strongly advise that you backup both your content and your scenery.cfg file prior to downloading the beta.

By downloading the beta you acknowledge that you are aware that you may encounter issues in running the software as described (but not limited to) the details above.
Checking for the error and providing feedback

Please leave any feedback relating to the beta in this thread. Feedback in other threads may not be considered. We are only interested in collecting feedback during the beta relating to the error described above.

You can identify that you have been affected by this error by doing this test:

                  1. Launch your copy of FSX:SE as you would normally
                  2. Click on Settings in the menu
                  3. Click on the Scenery Library option
                  4. Check for any duplicated name entries shown in your list of content. For example, Oban Airport. If you can see duplicate entries, you have been affected by the error as detailed above.

Important: Please note that the following items are meant to have two listings. This is normal behaviour:

                  1. Ultimate VFR Guam
                  2. Gibraltar X
                  3. VFR Real Scenery Volume 1
                  4. VFR Real Scenery Volume 2
                  5. VFR Real Scenery Volume 3
                  6. VFR Real Scenery Volume 4

If you encounter this error please provide us with the follow information:

                  1. Did you see this error occur straight away after installing the beta? If not, did it appear later? What were you doing prior to it appearing?
                  2. A copy of your scenery.cfg file. This can be found in the following directory on your computer:

                  <Drive>\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX

Please send this to us via our support website (http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/) by creating a new ticket and stating that you are taking part in the open beta.

                  3. Any crash dump files which are created as a result of playing the beta. These files will have an extension of .mdmp (for example: fsx_62615_crash_2015_8_25T14_25_23C0.mdmp) and can be found in the following directory on your computer:

                  <Drive>\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX

Please send these to us via our support website (http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/) by creating a new ticket and stating that you are taking part in the open beta.

If you require any additional help or support regarding the open beta please do not hesitate to contact us via our dedicated support website (http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/)

If you would like to install the update please do the following:

                  1. Open Steam
                  2. Open the Library tab

                  8. From the drop down menu, select 62615preview
                  9. FSX: Steam Edition will now update with the beta content
                  10. In your Steam Library, your game will be listed as Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition [62615preview]

You can opt out of the beta at any time by doing the following:

The FSX: SE open beta has now officially closed and access to the beta build of FSX has been revoked. We are currently aiming to release the update to all players within the next week. If you wish to remove the beta build from your PC please follow the steps outlined above.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback during this process.

                      Today on Facebook....
Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition
                      39 Min · Bearbeitet ·

Following intensive internal and public beta testing, we are pleased to announce the release of the latest FSX: Steam Edition update version 62615.

Important! Before opening FSX: Steam Edition, we strongly recommend you take the following steps:

•Back up your non-Steam add-on content – In the event that your add-on content needs to be re-installed, we strongly recommend keeping a back-up of non-Steam content.

•Back up your scenery.cfg files – We also recommend you back up your scenery.cfg file, especially those of you with an extensive scenery collection.
You can find your FSX: Steam Edition scenery.cfg file here: C:\Users\(system name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

•FSUIPC – FSUIPC is a piece of software that certain third party add-on products use to interface with FSX:SE. Because of the way this interface works, each new version of FSX:SE requires an update to FSUIPC. If you have any third party add-ons that use FSUIPC, please make sure you have updated to the latest version of that software when you install 62615, otherwise these add-ons will not work. You can get the latest version of FSUIPC from the SimFlight forum at: http://forum.simflight.com/forum/142-download-links/

The player-visible contents of this update are:

•Improvements for using modified Scenery.cfg files which could previously result in a 1007 error when installing new scenery add-ons. Please note due to the highly customisable nature of FSX: SE it is going to be impossible for us to attempt to deal with all forms of malformatting in the Scenery.cfg files. For this reason we have also provide an option to reset the Scenery.cfg file to the default version.

•Fixed font file loading not being VFS-aware. Font files associated with add-ons should now work as expected.

•Fixed multiplayer invites not working if you invite a friend to a Private game.

•Improved mouse cursor slow-down over complex cockpits.Although we have made some optimizations to this code, players may still experience some reduction in framerates when using highly complex cockpit models. This is because such models are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the game engine.

•Improved optimisation of installing/uninstalling add-on content through the Steam platform.

Because this update includes changes to the way Steam optimises FSX:SE add-on content available from the Steam store, some add-on content you have purchased may also may reinstall. This means that the size of the update will vary depending upon how many Steam add-ons you have installed. If you are just running the core simulator without add-ons, your download will be approximately 22.9 MB. This may increase up to 4.0GB if you own all of our FSX: Steam Edition add-ons.

If you experience any issues, please contact our support team at http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/Core/Default/Index

                      Thanks and happy flying!

Actually talking about load times. Even with all the various addons I have (I think I have contracted something from PR ;P) my load times have plummeted from 8-12 mins to 1-3 mins.

                            WINNING!

I will attempt in the near future to use Karl's scenery sharing tip (classic scenery to be used in Steam) here:

                              http://msflights.net/forum/showthrea...edition-of-FSX

I have updated my Steam beta installation at this revision level to the RTM version on my client. I have a virgin unpopulated Steam install client side at this time. I've heard positive comment on Karl's scenery sharing tip. I am now attempting to clean up my classic scenery files (updates, delete unused sceneries, eliminate duplicate geographical coverages etc.) before I apply Karl's scenery pointers.

I will update the North American Steam server FSX installation tonight. Server stability has continued to be just fine while the beta of version 62615 has run on it and I'll report further on connectivity stability after a day or so of running the RTM 62615.
                              Respects, Bob ...

you don't need to do something if you run 62615beta, Robert. just take the server down close Steam totaly and restart it, it will show a small update for fsx, maybe 16 til 30 megs. after this the beta disapears and your fsx looks normal and runs with 62615. DO NOT DO THE VALIDATION TOOL!!

My request to DTG Martin Yesterday...:
Casey Ryback: btw, i still was running the beta and i got a 15mb update latetly and it shows now the correct FSX:SE without the beta info

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition: That would be because the beta and the update are the same. Steam would have only updated any files which were changed since you downloaded the beta. - Martin
