  • Callsigns/Trigraphs

A lot of people fly addon aircraft or default aircraft but with a different callsign.

FSX Controllers see numerous players as ORB or AME on the radar list when the player believes their callsign is something else.

Similarly we see BRI instead of British Airways or DEL instead of Delta etc etc etc.

Similar to airports all airlines also have an ICAO code called a Trigraph.

A Trigraph is a 3 letter code which identifies the airline.
Some airlines also have callsigns for example British Airways uses Speedbird and US Airways use the Cactus Callsign.

I've put together a list of Trigraphs and callsigns for everybody to use so they show up correctly to ATC.

For instance instead of British Airways 201 showing to ATC as BRI201, it will show correctly as BAW201.
If ATC use the full TAG on radar it will show as BAW201 Speedbird, letting us know to call you Speedbird201.

Most if not all of todays Trigraphs are in the list and all you have to do is select it from the drop down list when selecting your callsign before a flight.

    TO INSTALL
    It's really easy to install.
    Download the file.
And move it to your FSX install folder.
Just drag and drop the file airlines.cfg.
The folder is usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ (or SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX if using the Steam Version) unless you didn't install FSX in the default location.

    Happy Flying.

I think that this is a good time to also remind pilots that ATC sees you as either your call sign and flight number, or your tail number, but not both.

There are three windows provided when you select an aircraft: Tail number, Airline call sign, and Flight number.

Only if you have selected "None" as your Airline call sign, will ATC see your tail number.

Otherwise, ATC will see you as the three-letter-identifier for your selected airline and your Flight number. Since you can not pick what the three-letter-identifier is for your airline call sign, here's my recommendation:

I suggest that you select "None" for Airline call sign, and instead, put exactly what you want ATC to see in the Tail number box.

This way, you can determine whether you want to be called Boeing one two three whiskey tango or Southwest fourteen thirty two, Air zero or Hornet six six oscar, World Travel eleven twenty eight or Delta eleven twenty eight.
Take the time, a second to soar; for soon after, beckons a second more.

The above MOD does exactly that.

Pick the Airline you'd like to be called.
And put the flight number you'd like to go by in the flight number box.

ATC will see you as CALLSIGN123.

Put a Reg/tail number too if you'd like too, and ATC would still see the correct Trigraph and flight number.

Most Private GA aircraft do not fly under a callsign, in which case you would leave the callsign as none and just enter the reg.

If your ever unsure of your callsign !C in the chat window will let you know what it is!

I've just updated to Callsign list to tidy it up a bit.

After you have dragged and dropped the airlines.cfg file to your main fsx folder (Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\) start FSX and select your callsign as below.

Either when you see the main FSX multiplayer menu click the ATC Name button as below.

Or when selecting your Aircraft click details also as below.

You can double check your callsin when in game by typing !C in the chat box.
If you do not select a callsign and you leave Airline Callsign as none ATC will see you as what ever you typed into the TAIL NUMBER box.

          Updated!
There are now no annoying gaps when searching for a callsign.

            **UPDATED**
Clicking the download link above will give you the latest file.

I also know some people were getting confused on how to install this file.

It literally is just drag and drop as in the pictures below.

If you don't get the warning saying there is a file with the same name, you have copied it to the wrong place.

If you installed FSX to the default location you need to drag the file to C:\Program Files x86\Microsoft Games...t Simulator X\

Still trying to get everyone to show their correct Callsign.

TYPE !C into the FSX chat window to find yours.

A couple of pictures below shows what we Air Traffic'ers see.

Two similar callsigns with the same Trigraph AIR but not the same airline.
