  • Weekly State Hop: NEW JERSEY (Friday 8/30 @ 9pm ET)

In the 19th century, factories in cities such as Camden, Paterson, Newark, Trenton, and Elizabeth helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. New Jersey's geographic location at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston and New York City to the northeast, and Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., to the southwest, fueled its rapid growth through the process of sub-urbanization in the 1950's and beyond.

    • Min cruise: 110 kts (127 mph, 204 km/h)
    • Max cruise: 135 kts (155 mph, 250 km/h)
    • Altitude: Low (1500 ft max)

Flight Lead: Storm is stepping in as reserve flight lead for this New Jersey flight.

    • Keeping to WarHawK's original plan: KTTN > KMJX > 19N > KMIV > KWWD > KACY
    • Lots of spawn-in parking available at KTTN starting airport.
    • All field elevations less than 250 ft.
    • All runways hard (asphalt or concrete).
    • All runways at least 3000 ft.

    1. KTTN > KMJX Direct
    2. KMJX > 19N Direct
    3. 19N > KMIV Direct
    4. KMIV > KWWD via KAGYS intersection onto LOC 19 (108.90 MHz 192)
    5. KWWD > KACY via SIE VORTAC, overhead KAIY (disused = MACDU intersection) and JABAM intersection onto ILS 31 (109.10 MHz 311)

Expected weather: Partly cloudy, wind southwest up to 10 kts, so approaches will be from north and/or east.

Recommended aircraft: Taildraggers, with details, examples and recommendations in a separate post.

      :joyous: Aircraft examples (recommended)
      • Maule (ideal - cruises nicely in the 110-135 kts speed range)
      • DC3 (but keep it slow!)
      • Grumman Goose (but better and easier to fly is the freeware OZX version)

      Freeware (available from Storm's Skydrive):
      • Dragon Rapide (keeps up well)
      • Junkers 52/3m (big, heavy and harder to fly)
      • Super Cub (at 111 kts flat out, only just fast enough)

      • Cessna 185F Skywagon (Carenado - not the bush version)
      • DHC-2 Beaver (Aerosoft)
      • Beech model 18 (CR1)
      • L-21 Super Cub (Flight Replicas)

      :apologetic: Aircraft examples (not recommended)
      • J-3 Cub (default) - far too slow
      • Luscombe 8 Silvaire (freeware) - too slow
      • Auster J/1 Autocrat (freeware) - too slow
      • Ford Tri-Motor (freeware) - just a little slow at 107 kts flat out
      • P-51 (default) - far too fast, unless you really like wallowing around slowly with full flaps, gear down, 50" manifold and 2400 rpm
      • Any jet
      • Any rotorcraft
      • Any tricycle undercarriage
