  • Can't undock panels

When I undock a panel (GPS, Radio, etc) it places a black shape where the panel was and redraws a flickering image in a different location. See image. The image in the upper left hand corner is flickering constantly.

    Any ideas?

I have seen this before with NVIDIA drivers, are you running multiple monitors?

Hey, Nova...this is crazy. I saw one of your videos about 2 weeks ago and it was because of the video i got into FSX and sim'ing. Small world.

Yes, I am running multiple monitors, however not NVidia - using an XFX Radeon R7 260x

Crazy thing is this was working yesterday..this is an entirely new build. I ended up throwing in a SSD and reloading Windows 10..the first thing I did was install (or I should say recover from Steam backup) FSX:SE. Just tested and the problem exist. Not sure what has changed.

Edit: Something else I just noticed, when selecting my aircraft the preview isn't there. I understand this may not be related, however it is strange as this used to show up without issue.

      Open to suggestions.

Obviously because you selected current time as 12:26 AM. Just kidding.

          It most likely is related.

Best piece of advice is the usual check the drivers are up to date. Next thing is navigate to your fsx.cfg file, rename it to fsx.cfg.backup then start FSX again. This will force a rebuild of the cfg file (you will have to reset some of your settings) as a clean version.

Usually its something to do with FSX on a restore from a back up getting confused by the monitors and display drivers (causes both of the things you have described).

And thanks for the support on YT! And I'm sorry for getting you into the longest and one of the most expensive addictions of your life! :highly_amused:

          Hope this helps!

              Resolved

Issue: Flight Simulator X - Flickering/Black square when undocking a panel (GSP, radio, etc)

              • All configurations performed with a single monitor unless noted otherwise

              Windows 10 installation
              • No video card; utilize only integrated card

              Steam installation
              • Restore FSX (from backup)
              ○ FSX Works correctly
Installed (plugged in) Saitek X52 Pro
              • FSX Works correctly w/ HOTAS
Install XFX Radeon R7 260x Ghost
              • Windows will automatically update the driver (using a native install)
              ○ FSX fails to work correctly
              • Rollback to Windows native driver
              ○ FSX fails to work properly
              • Install Radeon driver; utilizing 'auto find' software from site
              ○ FSX fails to work properly

              Solution:

Within FSX >Settings>Customize, ensure 'anti-aliasing' is selected

Tested with all monitors (3) and confirmed proper functionality

Glad to read of your success, Kerry. We hope you find enjoyment in the goings on within our multifaceted multiplayer community partially because the community can always use another techie, particularly an inherently helpful generally knowledgeable one. Your thread here sufficiently documents that you are, indeed, a resource that may, if not moderated, get in the way of your flying.

Also, yesterday the Thrustmaster T500 RS wheel and pedals arrived to my home. Wow! Unfortunately, I must fulfill a family commitment that will take me to Hawaii for a week starting Friday night. I've promised myself "me" time upon my return and "me" time focuses on msFLIGHTS.net.
