  • Free Civilization VI demo on Steam

And the full game is 20% off this weekend.

What is Civ6? It's the sixth incarnation of the Civilization series, a turn-based strategy game that pretty much originated and defined the "4X" genre back in 1991. You start 6000 years ago, in charge of a group of settlers in a sometimes hostile landscape, and you have to grow a civilization through to the present day in the midst of competing civilizations. You use the natural resources you find around you, you research technology and civic policy and develop your cities, you negotiate diplomatically and possibly fight with your neighbors, you stave off barbarians and befriend tribal villages, you may even start a religion - all the while growing your empire and heading towards victory, which, depending which incarnation of Civ you're playing, will be scientific, military, cultural, religious or diplomatic. Or you may be wiped off the face of the Earth...

There's a new edition of Civ approximately once every five years or so. Civ6 differs from earlier editions in that it "unstacks" cities into districts, each with separate tiles on the landscape, and this adds a great richness to the game. I've played Civ since 1997. I own and have played all editions. I'm a retired moderator of a popular Civ forum where I invented the still popular Game of the Month competitions back in 2001.

    What's in the demo?
    • 60 turns max. (Full games typically last 300 turns or more.)
    • Fixed civs: you play as China against America, Egypt and Sumeria. (The full game has up to 19 civs as a basis, with more as DLC.)
    • Fixed map. (The full game allows many different map styles and sizes.)
    • Single player only. (The full game also allows multiplayer.)
    • You can play as many times as you like.

WARNING: Civ is probably the most addictive game known to humankind. ("Just one more turn...")

Civilization VI on 33% discount till May 11th

(And the free demo is still available.) More details on "Civ" in the opening post of this thread for newcomers. If you're a CivHead like me, I think it's one of the best in the series. (My 360 hours game time in the last 12 weeks may confirm that!) But not everyone thinks so, so try the demo first.
