They ignored the 7 questions regarding freeware developers that worries me. If i cannot produce freeware for the new sim and edit stuff locally ill stay with what i have and what works for me. Lets wait and see!
I'm not disappointed as I never expected anything else. Their trajectory pre and post release of FSX:SE raised so many flags to an experienced eye that I decided not to invest heavily in it. In the end, I expect Dovetail to continue making business-based decisions, not fan-based decisions, and I don't expect anything different in their approach to DFS.

Products that allow integration into our community, and communities like us, will succeed and persist. SimLink-capable flight sims are that kind of product, though they won't necessarily make any money for their creators. New flight sim products that are more standalone (and you can have a standalone product that still is multiplayer) will make just enough money for their creators to justify their development, and then, as Bob suggests, they'll languish on the shelf.

Considering our current wide spread flight simulations endorsments and official support as well as those passtimes represented in our TeamSpeak Other Games channels, is it time to reconsider this idea? Should we modify the text in our official logo from its current "A Flight Simulation Community" to "A Multiplayer Simulations Community"?
Bob sees an increase in our multiplayer involvement with other non-flight sims. Examples are GTA V, E: D and trucks. I expect that trend to continue with other multiplayer sims that are either niche, that lack business competition, or that support a player universe that's not real-life based. However, I believe it's too early to say whether community activity will tilt far enough away from flight simming to warrant a change of name.

Here's a litmus test: When we have a track record of running regular organized group events in non-flight sims (in a similar way to our running group flights), that will be the time to consider a change of name.

I possibly confuse my naming issue with overcomplication. This is normal. It's me, not you. My informal re-proposal to redefine the "MS in our cast-in-concrete community name initially referred to the multiplicity of FLIGHT simulators our community was then embracing two years ago. With SimLink, those supported individual simming platforms now include FSX:classic, FSX:Steam, P3Dv3 and v2, FS2004 and X-Plane 10. I understand support of others may also be possible.

My reference to those "Other Games" we enjoy some evenings here on our TS is very subserviant to the philosophy underlying my name redefinition proposal. Kalo never defined that "MS" as referring to the corporation. Kalo couldn't do so if he wanted to. There was no name use license expressed nor implied and no attempt to get permission was ever prolfered. We were, however, all gathered 'round those limited multiplayer facilities that then were our fledgling community flying only Microsoft Flight. We had, as a group, abandoned our free flight simming in FSX in favor of this new simming engine. When Microsoft announced the cessation of development of Flight, the community reverted to the familiar FSX in a now more popular multiplayer mode. Many of us do not forget nor forgive Microsoft's abrupt about face on its commitment to flight sim development.

I propose, unofficially and low key, a recognition of our community name for what it really is, multiple players simulating real world flight in a common perceptive universe.
        Respects, Bob ...

That low key unofficial recognition already exists, viz. in the presence, persistence and usage of those very TeamSpeak channels. Nothing more needed until the litmus test passes.

I'd give some semi-formal recognition on our Twitter profile, but all I have is 160 characters and I use them like this: "An online multiplayer community for FSX boxed & Steam editions, Prepar3D, DCS, SimLink (cross-platform) & other flight simulators. Events correct at tweet time." No room for anything else.

Did everyone miss the part that this will be for windows 10 available from the windows store or steam only. That counts me out as a windows seven user.

It was stated as compatible with Win 7 64-bit -

Henk Schuitemaker Will DTG Flight Simulator run on Windows 7 64 bit?

DTG Flight School It sure will! - Steve
You may only have the option of buying through Steam, I haven't researched backwards compatibility for the Windows Store enough.

To be fair that article on http://news.xbox.com also suggested it was coming to XBOXOne (which it is not)

                    I found this Q and A on Avsim.com forums;

" What about the core of the game, will you use real ungine 4 like TS2016?

No, we are not using the Unreal Engine for this one. We did use it for Euro Fishing and the upcoming Train Simulator 2. Instead both are based on updated FSX: SE technology. In 2014, we acquired the rights to develop and publish new flight products based on Microsoft’s genre-defining flight technology. Both Flight School and Flight Simulator are the result of that work. "

                    This exchange confirms my expectations
It will be repackaged 10-year-olds Technology, not a new Sim.
Many will get caught in the concept of something new, but it will not be.
It is an attempt to change, from one time purchase to continuous income stream.

                    I already have FSX.

                      How so?

Let us take an objective look at FSX/P3D/DCS/AeroflyFS/Xplane

All of them are come as a complete sim with terrain and aircraft.
All of them are stand alone.
All of them are single points of purchase not continuous purchase.
All of them have additional content that can be purchased to allow you to enhance your experience but it is not required.

Now, let us look at the comparison that is ALWAYS made when the discussion of DFS comes up: DTG Train Simulator

TS is a complete sim with terrain and trains
                      TS is standalone
TS is a single point of purchase not continuous purchase
TS has additional content that can be purchased to allow you to enhance your experience but it is not required.

So why does this keep coming up?

Because when DTG release each year's update for TS it is purchase-able. But if you only want the core updates to the engine and not whatever new scenarios or trains it ships with you do not need to buy it. Your sim WILL update to the latest version.

Let us think about that for those of us flying P3D.

Yes I share concerns that it may just be a repackaged FSX engine, but hey... what is P3D again?

Thanks to Stephen Hoods Reddit QA a couple of hours ago I can now confirm the second aircraft in DTG Flight School is a Piper Cherokee.

Two Pipers for us to play with!

                          A Very interesting read:

"To keep it sweet and short, Dovetail – the guys making two new flight sims for us this year are collaborating with Orbx."

So it is a 64 bit fsx with orbx global as the base. The textures used appear to be old orbx England and Scotland textures re branded and undoubtedly slapped with a new price tag. This has pretty much confirmed my feeling towards the new sim and now dovetail. Any company that knows another's moral grounds and can see the unethical steps taken to get where they are and still decides to get involved with them in my book becomes as tainted whether or not it makes business sense it is alot of peoples passions and therfore must be viewed with compassionate as well as financial objectives. My 2 cents anyway.

                            Neat!
But, that means they're still doing "top-down" application of textures, whereas Flight! incorporated a more 3-dimensional approach to applying textures (think: steep cliffs looking detailed throughout instead of like a stretched flat texture).
Take the time, a second to soar; for soon after, beckons a second more.

Hmm, so are they not going to use the Microsoft Flight engine they bought? The few screen shots I have seen look a lot like fsx which is a shame IMO. Microsoft Flight graphics were so much better then anything fsx could ever offer including orbx IMO. A lot more detail could have been added to Flight also, imagine if orbx made scenery for the flight engine.

I could be wrong but as i understand it the flight school will be esp (FSX) based engine obviously improved as for the total new sim it will be a custom dovetail games engine with concepts and formats adopted from fsx and flight.
