I spent the extra money and use an I7 instead of an I5.

I recently got the i7 Haswell 4790K and have OC'd it to 4.8Ghz....I didn't see any difference in FSX so I put it back down to 4.4. The motherboard temp runs cooler that way. The CPU temps were ok since it is water cooled. For running games, there is nothing wrong with the i5 series, you can OC them pretty good. For just a few more dollars you can bump it up to the i7.

curious as to what makes you think that Intel runs FSX better? I have no issues with my AMD-8150 and FSX.

Maybe because most people say that they run superb with Intel, I get AMD because they tend to be the best performance price ratio. If a FX-8350 do what i want, 30fps(smooth flying) with max sliders and 50%-60% air traffic specially in my heavy airport i would be very happy to just swap board and cpu only!

                Hawg

Do the "newers" FX-8320E and 8370E would help with what i want?

What i do with fsx is this

Rex textures, 2048 hd textures for clouds.
FSGLobal Wheather engine, felt in love with it...
                PDMGs and CapSims

Whorst scenario for me is Panama with FSGlobal and my airport with a paywares! Depending on wheather i can land or not using FSPassengers, too choppy to not get blown tires. Big LOL!
