  • FSX and Win. 8.1 Help.

    Hello everyone!

I've been having trouble with freeware aircraft; basically there are no textures on any of the freeware aircraft that I have, just grey. So I heard by a former community member that it's a DX10 issue and said to turn it off. The problem is, I cannot turn DX10 off because my FSX WILL crash. My FSX worked fine on Win 8, no crashing without DX10, now with 8.1, without DX10, the sim will crash. Any fixes or suggestions? Thanks everyone and happy flying!

When you get the crash from DX9 have you checked the Event Viewer to see exactly what's causing the crash?

That should help you isolate the problem. As usual make sure everything is running as administrator and try running fsx.exe in compatibility mode for Windows Vista.

    Safe skies

How do you switch from DX9 to DX10? Just in the FSX or are you using a payware called Steve's DX10 Fixer? Without this payware addon even Windows 7 got problems because the DX10 option in FSX is just a Beta-Test what never got finnished up!

Roll back your ATI GPU drivers. 13.4 and below works, from what I hear.

I have received this advice for Win8.1 users, from my good friend Thomas. He says that with thse changes in Windows he has solved the spontanjeous disconnection of joystick and other USB devices:

              Action:

              - Open Energy Options (might be Power Options like in Win7) in Control Panel

              - Then go to change Energy Saving Options of the selected Energy Saving Plan

              - There like always everything should be set to always ON …

              - Then select Advanced Options on that page

              - On that new panel (Energy Options) under the selected Energy Saving Plan there are two setting to take care of

o Energy Saving, again everything should be set to No saving/ Always ON ..

              o USB-Settings -> Selective USB Energy Saving -> Deactivated/ Disabled

The first Energy Setting is just global and makes you to believe it includes USB but it doesn’t.

The second one, Selective USB Energy Saving doesn’t give you any idea for what it really is or what it does but it needs to be Disabled to keep the devices alive.

Not even the Help button does give any help about those settings …

              Hope this helps ...

              Pete
