  • HTC VIVE lens mod

For those of you flying in VR with the HTC VIVE - I bit the bullet and replaced the stock Fresnel lenses of the HTC VIVE with the lenses from a 2016 Samsung Galaxy 'phone VR' headset.

In case anyone has considered doing the same - GO FOR IT!

It was quick, easy, and the improvement to the image was dramatic.

No more "god rays", no more blurring outside of a central "sweet spot".

    It's a 4 step process:

    1. Buy a 2016 all-black Samsung Gear VR from e-bay and take out its lenses.
    2. Have a lens adaptor 3d printed - you can find companies on the internet that will do this cheaply - just send the design file and get your adaptor in the mail usually within a few days.
    3. Place the Samsung Gear VR lenses into the adaptor, replace the VIVE lenses with these.
    4. Update the HTC VIVE lens correction file on the headset.

As far as I'm concerned it's now a next-generation headset, and the mod cost me only 80 Australian dollars - a second Samsung VR from ebay for $65 and $15 to get the lens adaptor 3d printed.

Here's a link to get you started.
