  • Captain Sim 737-200

I thought I would post some pictures of the Captain Sim 737-200 that I have been enjoying lately. It's an older airliner built in the late 60's and throughout the 70's. I especially like how the gauges are steam, since most airliners for FSX are glass cockpit. I was lucky enough to pick it up for $10 during a Captain Sim sale (now it's on sale for $30).

A nice thing about Captain Sim is they offer Free Demo's of their planes, so if you want to see me flying this plane (instead of a substitution) download their free demo! :eagerness: http://www.captainsim.com/products/x737/demo.html

Anyway's I highly recommend this plane, and along with A2A's Accu-Feel, it's really fun to fly.

Would you say its one of the better payware 737s? I'm looking to pick up one.

I would definitely say it's one of the better ones. PMDG is probably considered "the best" by most, but then again its almost twice as expensive as the Captain Sim(or 7x more expensive if you hold out for Captain Sim's Christmas sale) and the PMDG is almost 40 years more modern of a model.

The reason the Captain Sim 737 appeals to me so much is because its an older (late 60's-70's) model with steam gauges. I'm not a fan of glass cockpits so this older cockpit is a good step of for someone that flies primarily GA aircraft......it's kind of like your flying a huge Kingair or something. The way it operates is very similar to GA aircraft, because it's a 70's model before all the fancy equipment came out for the modern 737's.

If you like glass cockpits, or want all the latest instruments and systems I would say go for the PMDG. If you don't mind the older model, or fly primarily small GA aircraft the Captain Sim 737-200 is a great next step because of its simplicity and similar systems to smaller aircraft. I also made a startup tutorial for the Captainsim that is pretty simple, I'll probably publish it soon after I put the finishing touches on it.

Right now the PMDG sells for $70, while the CaptainSim is on sale for 30euros($40). I picked up the CaptainSim 737 for 10euros on their annual Christmas sale...if your willing to wait that long.

they have a demo but it's pretty limited. It doesn't expire but it's basically just so you can see what the exterior looks like, the demo uses the default 737 virtual cockpit and sounds. demo: http://www.captainsim.com/products/x737/demo.html

A couple people that downloaded the free demo said they see me flying as it but, all the doors are open and the emergency slide is deployed. Now that I think about it, maybe if they loaded into the demo and closed the doors/brought in the emergency slide they might not see them open when I'm flying it.

I'm not an expert on sound quality but it seems nice, they say the sound is authentic for JT8D engines on their site.
