    FSV'S Iron Man!

    The Pearl Harbor Attack
In response to the growing crisis in the Pacific, in early December 1941 four Boeing B-17C Flying Fortresses and two new B-17Es of the 30th Bombardment Group were flying cross country from New Orleans, Louisiana stopped at Hamilton on their way to Hickam AAF in Hawaii then on to Clark AAF in the Philippines to reinforce the 19th Bombardment Group stationed there.

After leaving Hamilton, and flying all through the night, the bombers arrived over Oahu on the morning of December 7, 1941, and faced an unusual welcome. The B-17s had arrived over Oahu during the Japanese air attack on Hawaii which triggered America's entry into World War II. The B-17C Flying Fortresses arrived at Pearl Harbor at the height of the attack (radar operators mistakenly thought that the Japanese attack force was this flight arriving from California). Some of the planes managed to land at a short fighter strip at Haleiwa, one set down on a golf course, and the remainder landed at Hickam under the strafing of Japanese planes.

In addition, twelve B-17Ds of the 5th Bombardment Group were parked on the ground at Hickam AAF during the attack. Five of these B-17s were destroyed, and eight were damaged.

The B-17Es of the 7th Bombardment Group were moved back to Hamilton from Utah for deployment to the Far East. Six of them arrived in Hawaii just after the Pearl Harbor attack, but the rest of them were ordered to remain in the United States to defend California and were sent south to Muroc AAF near Rosamond.

    Flight Reenactment
I would like to invite you to our annual reenactment of the B17 flight from Hamilton AFB San Rafael California to Hickman Air Force Base Honolulu, on December 3, 2016.

Because December 7th falls on a weekday, we will take off from Hamilton Army Air Field December 3, 2016 arriving at Honolulu on December 4, 2016 at 07:30:00 Hawaii Time, to coincide with the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7 1941 at 07:00:00 Hawaii time.
This flight is not for the faint of heart. Those making this flight will be looking at 12 to 14 hours of flight time.

Thank you, Kenny, for organizing this! :eagerness: For those of us currently without B-17s, what do you recommend as both payware and freeware B-17 models?

      Airplane Heaven as a nice B-17 http://www.aeroplaneheaven.com/product_b17.php

A2A has a nice one to. There are a few free B-17's, but there FS2004 not FSX native, so they wouldn't work out for P3D.

        Aeroplane Heaven B-17C and B-17E repaints (for AH B-17F v2 and v3)

        Good Day Everyone!

I'm making the post for Mr. Randy Cain. These repaints for the Aeroplane Heaven B-17C and B-17E are the work of Mr. Randy.

        Thanks Randy!

Introducing my pre-war Pacific colors for the December 6, 1941 (December 3, 2016!) Ironman B-17 flight of 12 to Honolulu Hawaii. The following 2 schemes are included. As there are no C model B-17s available, I've painted up the B-17F in the older paint and insignia of 1941. I did the same for the E models, the distinguishing feature being the wing deicer boots along the wing.
I've included a set of each without markings, so you may paint them up, if you'd like to give that a try.

        Download Here:
        http://fsvintageair.com/randy_cain/A...1941v2BETA.zip

I've also added a new LOW RESOLUTION set, for those that would like to use less memory in multiplayer environments and/or prerecorded or AI flights using JOINFS to create a squadron of B-17s to fly along with.

I hope you enjoy them and please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks, and see you soon!

For this years Ironman Flight, Kenny and I are trying something new. I've put together a saved flight package to work in BOTH Flight Simulator X AND Prepar3D. The only things you need are a default Mooney Bravo, which should already be there, and Kenny Fox's Hamilton Army Air Field Scenery, which is available from the post at the top of this thread, and from the FSVintageAir.com Scenery page in our forum.
Now, all you need to is download this and install it, as per included instructions, and you will find yourself at Hamilton Army Air Field, on December 6, 1941, in a default Mooney Bravo. The weather will be based on the Weather records from San Francisco and Honolulu Hawaii, also from this date. (Please turn off ActiveSky or other weather BEFORE loading this, and have your sim set to use Flight Time, not System Time)
            fsvintageair.com/randy_cain/Aircraft/Ironman_2016_Flightplan_Weather_History.zip
            http://fsvintageair.com/randy_cain/A...er_History.zip

Also included is a brief history of the flight, as told by the family of one of the men that flew the mission.

This should give us a flight on the same day, and in the same weather as history records, for the duration of the flight. Please let me know what you thought of this, as we're considering basing future flights, where time and weather are the same, to be built in the same way.

            Safe landings,
            Yours,
            :encouragement:
