  • DAY OF THE DUDE - third annual celebration of the deeply casual

PLEASE READ ALL THIS!! This year we're doing something different. We're not flying around Los Angeles, the home of the Dude. We're flying to a place where the Dude is deeply revered in a very concrete way: Italy!

This flight replaces this week's Chopper Tuesday, which will continue as normal next week.

Florence, Italy, is the home of CS Lebowski (Centro Storico Lebowski), a non-professional sports organization focused on a soccer team, and with very noble Dude-like aims. To find out more about it, please flick through all 80+ cartoons on this wonderful comic here: (Caution: slow server. Initial load is slow but worth it!) The comic strip features the Dude and Walter.

The whole website for CS Lebowski is here: (Once again slow server at first.) If you're sufficiently impressed by their work, there's even a way to donate to their cause. Back to our flight...

The Day of the Dude is a celebration of the deeply casual. It takes place on March 6th each year at the end of the Dudeist holy festival of Hangover (that begins on February 27th, National Kahlua Day). March 6th was the official release date of The Big Lebowski in 1998 and is the high holiday of Dudeism.

Aircraft: Slow and relaxing. We only need 50 kts cruise at fairly low altitudes. If it can do much more than 80 knots, it's probably too fast! Some suggestions: Curtiss Jenny, , J-3 Cub, AirCreation Trike Ultralight, Aviatika-MAI-890 (main picture above) = "The White Russian", Polar Express airship... etc.

No special scenery is required. Default is OK. Vector can be active. X-Plane 11 pilots may wish to download Italian VFR scenery (z_IT_Landmarks).

    Flight plans

    * We land here but it's not an airport. There will be a "helibot" hovering over a road south of the city of Pistoia
FSX pilots: Land in any clear space north or south of the road by the Helibot.
XP11 pilots: The ground to the north of the Helibot is clear but very dusty. The ground to the south is grassy.

Flight plans for both FSX/P3D and XP11 can be found here:

Thanks, Spliffy, for the link. Thanks, Reverend, for the flight. I have both the community standard Flightport Zeppelin NT as well as the Tim "Piglet" Conrad Aviatika MAI-890 ultralight w/ Storm mod v3.0 applied, installed in my P3Dv3. I believe I'll show up initially in the Aviatika but I'll be ready to switch to the Zeppelin if more appropriate. Centro Storico Lebowski backround material has been reviewed if not totally understood.
      Respects, Bob ...
