  • Air Traffic Control Q&A for Pilots and ATC

Air Traffic Control Questions and Answers Session.

This is the time to ask basic questions it won't be anything too complicated so don't worry.

The session will be held using the MSFlights Teamspeak 3 and Steam servers.

Feel free to invite friends who are not yet a part of MSFlights.net.

ATC are asked to join the steam server with the FSX radar open, while pilots can join in an aircraft of their choice.
The Airport will be announced on the day and users are asked not to publicize the airport in FSX chat, in order to minimize uncontrolled Spawners.

Pilots can ask controllers any questions with regards to ATC.
What would you ask for in a specific situation?
If your flying over a controlled airfield do you need to talk to ATC?
    Why is the squawk needed?
What is "QNH" that you keep telling me?
How do I know if my flight is IFR or VFR and what do they mean?
Where and how do I set my callsign so ATC call me what I think I am?

New ATC(or even other ATCOs) can ask current controllers questions.
How would I give a clearance?
    What is a clearance?
How do I know what the traffic is doing?
How would I ask them to do a certain thing?
Am I giving them correct information?
What squawk would I give an aircraft?

This session is setup so both pilots and ATC get a better understanding of what each other wants to do and should help keep the high quality of session MSFLIGHTS provides.

All answers will be based on a general FSX ATC session and may sometimes differ from real world due to different parts of the world using different systems.
For example: Altimeter, QNH and Flight Levels.

DON'T BE SCARED, ASK THE QUESTION!
If you don't use BOINC or World Community Grid then you should!
