  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #16: Georgia

Restarting in 2015 with a journey through the Peach State.

    Week 16: Georgia
    KAGS>KTBR>[SAV]>KSSI*>KVAD>KTLH

*All airports except KSSI have ILS. Therefore, in the event of poor visibility on the Atlantic coast, we will divert from KSSI to nearby KBQK, which does have an ILS.
KTBR and KSSI are OrbX airports (free downloads if you have FTX Global).

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • Second hop doglegs via SAVANNAH VOR, SAV 115.95 MHz.
    • All other legs are GPS direct but we'll use ILS if bad weather.
    • We may break off course on approaches, direction according to surface wind.
UPDATE: Download vII of the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams to come.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 200 knots
    Altitude: 2,000 ft

    AIRCRAFT
Singles and twins capable of steady 200 kt cruise at 2,000 ft. There are several default aircraft suitable, plus some popular payware (e.g. Lancair Legacy) and freeware (e.g. Cessna 310Q). In addition, I recommend the following freeware aircraft from my OneDrive: BD-5, Beaufighter, Howard 500, Spartan 7W Exec, Stingray, and the Sus Scrofa.

    RESTRICTIONS
No three, four or more engined aircraft.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam. We will continue to use Classic in future weeks for the Great 48! until more critical add-ons are working (such as Active Sky Next, and FTX Global and Vector for Classic and Steam on the same machine).

    WEATHER
Server specified default is OK. However...
Recommended: Real-world live weather generators, e.g. FSrealWX lite or Active Sky Next.
    • FSrealWX lite is freeware available in our TeamSpeak file browser. Why not try it?
    • Active Sky Next is payware.
I'll be using real-world weather (Active Sky Next) and calling active runways accordingly.

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
NA packs relevant for this flight:
    • NA pack 13 (First stop KTBR)
    • NA pack 3 (Second stop KSSI)

Update to flight plan: The second hop now doglegs via SAVANNAH VOR, SAV 115.95 MHz. Download vII of the PLN flight plan file here. Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams are still to come.

Many thanks to Georgia resident and msFlights community member Flyingdreamz for this suggestion, which adds significant visual interest along the coast while adding only 3 minutes to the flight plan.

(The opening post of this event thread has been updated to show KAGS>KTBR>[SAV]>KSSI*>KVAD>KTLH.)
