  • Storm Stalkers Event! First Official!

The testing is OVER!!!!!!! The time for the first OFFICIAL Storm Stalkers flight. Tonight we go after a Tropical Storm.

    Here are the Details.

This event is only open to members of the MSF Storm Stalkers Group. Being such, the Teamspeak room will be locked with a password. That password has already been distributed to official members. If you are an official member of the Stalkers and you do not have the password, let me know. If you are not an official member, and would like to join us, you must submit your request at least 24 hours prior to the event in order to be able to fly in it. This rule is to assist the group with keeping the Teamspeak professional and task oriented. There are not exceptions to this rule.

One member to be Over-Lord in the Over-Watchers group. Overlord responsible for coordinating the flight and to make sure that everyone is in the correct position for Best photos.

Real World Storm if there is one, if not, we will fly historical on 5/28/2012 somewhere of the Northern part of Florida on the Atlantic side. Tropical Storm Beryl took place then and we will hunt her down.....

New livery for an unexpected possible addition to the Storm Stalking hangar: the Bede BD-5J in NOAA Hurricane Hunter livery! (Click for full-size/clarity.)

I've added this NOAA livery, by Rick Federmann, to the BD-5 folder in the Modern Oddities Hangar on my OneDrive: download it from there. It works only with the Jez G freeware BD-5 (which is the one on my OneDrive, together with a whole load of good mods in my patch version 1_1_1). This livery works well for both the prop and jet version, though I recommend the jet for rough weather.

The twitchy, aerobatic and highly maneuverable BD-5 is surprisingly good for hurricane hunting and other turbulent weather, especially the BD-5J microjet variant. BD-5 pilots will already be used to flying with a light hand on the stick, and this technique proves useful in a storm. At the same time, the high cruise speed allows penetration of the storm system while the low stall speed brings a large margin of safety. Members of MSF Storm Stalkers should try this one!

More test flying tonight... Another aircraft I found works really well in storms is the Mil Mi-24 Crocodile. This helicopter is still in the queue for mods on my Factory Floor. It's not available yet but I tried it out tonight with unfinished instrumentation and sound. Storm Stalkers may supply the required impetus for my getting it fixed and published!

Great shots. I think we could have had a better first week, however, I think I learned a few things about how our group should function. I enjoyed the flight.

HawgDiggidyDawg- I'm (informally) submitting my request for membership in your MSF STORM STALKERS flying club. I'll read up on it and then submit a formal request when I find out how to do as such. Sorry I missed your first "dry run" <- pun intended! har har! . . .A couple of suggestions/requests for future Historical flight dates that lack real-time storm(s): 'canes Jeanie, and Francis <- both in the same season '02? ...both strong CAT=3's...both landfell @ Port Saint Lucie county...both wiperd out my house on A-1A dune! *sigh* to strike the same place, in the same season, back-to-back, only 28 days apart <- that NEVER happens! but it did. Lol!....................-MarkT182.
