  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #05: Rhode Island

We'll visit more than two-thirds of the airfields in Rhode Island, including the "real" Rhode Island!

    Week 05: Rhode Island
    KSFZ>RI20>KUUU>08R>KBID>KGON

    FLIGHT PLAN
Not all legs are direct. Please check the flight plan.
Not all airfields are straightforward. Please check the airport diagrams.
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan, flight map and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 60 knots
Altitude: Low, as required. 1,500ft - 2,000ft where possible.

    AIRCRAFT
Fixed wing and helicopters OK, capable of steady 60 knots, straight and level, at low altitude. Dirigibles also OK provided they stay clear of runways/other aircraft and not land at RI20!

    RESTRICTIONS
    No jets.

    RECOMMENDED FIXED WING
Default: Piper J-3 Cub, Aircreation Trike (OK in the server for this flight; it's normally kicked).
Storm's Vintage Hangar: Curtis Jenny, Luscombe Silvaire, de Havilland Tiger Moth, Curtiss-Reid Rambler, Ercoupe standard, Auster Autocrat, Waterman Arrowbile.
    Storm's Modern Oddities: Sadler Vampire.
    msFlights Vault: none.
Various freeware: Corben Baby Ace, Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat, Polikarpov U-2 (Po-2), etc.
Various payware: Pitcairn PA-18 and PCA-2 autogyros, A2A Cub, etc.

Speed range chart for many suitable aircraft (stall speeds and maximum speeds):

    RECOMMENDED ROTARY WING
    Default: Robinson R22.
    Storm's OneDrive: None.
    msFlights Vault: None.
    Various: None.

    RECOMMENDED OTHER
Dirigible/blimp/airship/zeppelin. << These should not land at our first stop, RI20.
(The airfield is too small and surrounded by trees, and the rest of us wouldn't fit!)

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
NA packs relevant for this flight:
    • 15 (KSFZ depart)
    • 8 (KOQU overfly)
    • 9 (KBID land)
    • 10 (KGON land).

That 1st stop is more like a wide parking spot than a runway. Sick! Should be fun...

Reminder and Trivia Qs! Bring your 60 knot aircraft to KSFZ by 9pm tonight. I'll probably fly the Vampire light sports one last time.

Trivia: What have these three pictures to do with our flight? From back-to-front they rate easy, medium, hard. Answers please tonight.

Wonderful shots guys. Thank you! :eagerness:
Just one of mine I'm afraid. (It's rather hard for me to do more as flight lead unless it's a long leg.)
