  • Historic Re-run #1 : Operation Market Garden (Phase 1) 9:00 pm ET

    Greetings pilots,
In the United states, there is a tradition of re-enacting past battles in front of a civilian crowd. Although I don't live in the US, I feel it is important to try and bring that tradition to the people flying in FSX and that is what the "Historic Re-run" series is all about. We will bring many of the tide turning air battles that took place in both world wars and others as well.

    Historic Re-run #1 : Operation Market Garden
Those of you who know your history lessons well will surely know about Operation Market Garden. But still here is a brief description of the op:

After the successes in the Normandy Breakout, it was believed that the German Army was a beaten foe and in retreat. As such, British General Montegomery lay forth a brazen plan to capture key bridges that would be required for the final push into Germany. Montgomery relayed his plan and, following acceptance by Supreme Allied Commander in Europe- US Dwight D Eisenhower- put the plan into action.

The operation was to be made up of two distinct forces - the airborne elements (falling under the "Market" designation) and the ground forces (falling under "Garden" designation). The airborne units were charged with seizing key bridges and choke points while the ground forces would be called to move northwards to secure any gains.

The initial embarkment consisted of over 1500 Allied aircraft taking of from airbases all over Southern England. The US 101st Division was earmarked for a drop over Eindhoven. They were followed by the US 82nd Airborne Division marked for stops over Grave and Nijmegen. American forces were joined by the British 1st Airborne Division who were charged with taking the span at Arnhem from Oosterbeek. A total of Five bridges were targeted. In the south, the British 2nd Army was staged to advance along the Eindhoven-Arnhem corridor.

    No real combat:
This is NOT A TACPACK server event. Historic Re-runs will consist only of "Bombing" or "Air-drop" missions.

    Preferred aircraft:-
As the server does not allow the use of gliders, we cannot us the Horsa, which was the actual plane of choice in the real mission. We will instead use the C-47 Skytrain. Those who did the Gooney bird flight should have this aircraft but still here are the links

If anyone likes to tag along in a fighter plane feel free to download the Twin Spitfire Hurricane D Day Package here:http://simviation.com/1/browse-Vintage-66-18
You can also use the Hawker Typhoon:http://simviation.com/1/browse-Vintage-66-9

    Mission Briefing:-
We will be taking off from Manston (EGMH) Rwy 10 with planes full of US Marines and the British SAS. Their mission is to assault and capture Eindhoven Airbase in the Netherlands where we will land, after the drop. While the assault takes place we will circle above the airbase and avoid flak ,until the marines give us the green light to land.
