  • Lazer's Around the World- an Xmas Story (Thursday December 19th, 8pm ET)

    Hello pilots!
Our cargo hauling air convoy has been asked to head north to help deliver last minute supplies to a high-profile client.

We will be departing Tanquary Fjord (CJQ6) on a very challenging flight around the "North Pole". Our mission is to make stops at a few secret locations to pick up needed supplies and deliver them to our high-profile employer. Along the way we will be hauling Christmas presents, Trees, and decorations.
This will be a very difficult flight around some unforgiving terrain, especially because of the troubles that come with GPS & navigation aids this far north.

You WILL need to be familiar with your GPS and autopilot in order to complete this flight. I have supplied a detailed flight-plan that you will need. Also supplied is a link to my Skydrive that contains all the scenery & airport .bgl's that are easy to install, but necessary. Just follow the simple instructions. If you have any questions about using detailed flight-plans or add-on scenery, Please feel free to PM me or post here for help before the flight.

Please be aware that there are no runway "numbers" because they stop making sense this far north, that is why I added a big glowing arrow on all runways to indicate the landing and departing runway. The flight plan will tell you (in the GPS from-to window) all of the altitudes and speeds to maintain, and when to start descending.

All are welcome to join in the fun of this Christmas adventure, but please be prepared ahead of time, and be courteous to your fellow pilots.

Please visit the events forum for this post to get "an Xmas flightplan" and "an Xmas scenery"
    Happy landings,
    Lazerbolt

    Happy landings,
    Lazer

Hi pilots! Here are links to an Xmas flightplan as well as a link to my Skydrive where you can get the scenery files for Thursday nights flight.

We will be departing CJQ6 (Tanquary Fjord) @ 8pm ET. I've added plenty of parking spots at this airport, so there should be no problem spawning in if you have the scenery installed.

Any aircraft that cruises at 160-170 knots IAS will be good to use for this flight. I will be flying the Gruman Goose and we will fly at altitudes of 4,000-6,000 feet.

    Plan is as follows:

    CJQ6- Tanquary Fjord
    ELVS- General Tinker-Boots international
    GNOM- Gerome the Gnome aerodrome
    TNSL- Killer Whalen Jennings Municipal
    XMAS- Rudolf international

To use the detailed flightplan simply click below to download "an Xmas flightplan" and place it in your "my documents/flight simulator x files" folder. Then you can load it into the in-game flight planner for use with your GPS and autopilot!

Heres the link to my skydrive that contains the scenery .BGL's that are necessary for this flight. Just follow the instructions inside the folder! Bingo!

Hope to see everyone there! happy landings,

Any aircraft requirements in regards to the cold temps/landing conditions? Such as is the Baron OK, or does it need to be sturdier? I won't be able to get on that early, but with the .pln there I can do it another time.

And for those flying the Goose, if you haven't already I recommend the OZx version: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/...-hd-redux-120/

It doesn't need to be amphibian, even though Lazer's Goose is amphibian. Wheels are good throughout. You will need a reasonable rate of climb between 0-6000ft. I expect the Baron will work providing you have your pitot heat on (and other anti-icing)! I will be flying the Moller M400 Skycar, mostly red with a dash of white, of course!

From the target indicated airspeed of 160-170 knots, it sounds like Lazer will be flying the OZx Goose, HP (High Power) version, an excellent plane that looks far better than the default and handles better on the ground too.

In fact, if you want to fly a Goose, I suggest that you DO NOT FLY THE DEFAULT GOOSE, as you may find it's more than 20 knots slower than the OZx HP one and may not keep up. Use Waterman's link instead to get the OZx. (138 knots max. indicated @ 6000ft for both the default and the OZx standard, versus 162 knots max. indicated @ 6000ft for the OZx HP version.)

Thanks Storm! That pretty much covers it.
The runways for Thursday are all in the 4,000-5,000 ft. range. Plenty big enough for most planes that can cruise at 160 knots.
          Happy landings,
          Lazer

Primary FSX host server configuration is special for this flight. Calendar date is March 11th and server time is minus 5 hours. Weather is fair weather theme.

I was late to the party 'cause of work, but the scenery and route were absolutely amazing.
Recommend this for a cross community flight.
Big ups to Lazerbolt for the time and creative effort it took to do this.
PS. I was told you can still download the scenery into your scenery file (one file at a time) and the flight plan, and fly it in single player for March 11, fair weather, mid-day.

Many many thanks to Lazer for:
                              (a) amazing preparation to create such a memorable flight
                              (b) providing an atmosphere conducive to amiable discussion and bonhomie (as usual)
                              (c) considering the possibility of 9pm ET starts in future so more people can reliably attend from the start
