  • Suggestion: Alaskan VA Expansion

    Hi pilots and VA staff,

first of all, thanks for putting all the efforts into the system, it works great

I am a big fan of flying in Alaska virtually, because it combines spectacular landscape with harsh weather conditions and challenging airports and approaches. Most of us have flown there in MS Flight, so I thought of a VA expansion to the last frontier in FSX. My idea is to have national routes between KSEA (Seattle) - PAKT (Ketchikan) - PAJN (Juneau) - PANC (Anchorage) - PAFA (Fairbanks). Each of the hubs has plenty of small to medium size airstrips around it so there's enough to cover at least 3 outbound/inbound runs to smaller airports in and out of each hub. I have already done some for PAFA and PANC in Plan-G with attention to different sized bush planes (e. g. some trips with runways < 3000 ft for small and STOL aircraft like Maule, Beaver, Twin Otter, ... and trips with runways > 3000 ft for bigger aircraft like DC-3, DC-6 and Turboprops/Biz-jets). There's also nice scenery available (Orbx PFJ and SAK, Flight1s Ultimate Alaska and some airports like Anchorage and Fairbanks of Aerosoft/sim-wings, Ketchikan and Stewart (Juneau to come) by Orbx, ...).

My question for you is: Is this applicable to you? I'd like to help you and give my work to the VA when it's finishied if you are interested in it. What do you think?

I would love some Alaskan/British Columbian routes! Or any routes in the North American Orbx regions, right now there is a route or two out of Seattle but I get terrible frames there so I can't really fly there. I think what you described is perfect, some bush routes and some regional routes would be great for the area.

If my circumstances change and I have the time, I would LOVE this! Any chance of including some routes to a few RTMM (Return To Misty Moorings) strips?

Yes! This would be great! I started making some routes out of Fairbanks and Anchorage but it did not take long for me to figure out that I wasn't really good at it. Haha Anyway, I am all for Alaska routes!
          If it ain't Boeing — I ain't going.

I also think these are great ideas. Alaska VA routes would be not only scenic, but challenging. I would like to have some for the dash8 as well as flying into the larger airports with the 737 or the like.

I'm glad to hear you guys want some Alaskan routes because Lama has been working on some Alaskan routes the past couple of weeks! I'm thinking we could have at least one hub up in about a week.

That's great! I will try to get some flight planner routes for those when they come out.

I am glad you like the idea, too! I'll just email my routes around to see what the VA staff thinks of them.

I heard of them, however, I do not have them installed. I am not sure if kACARS or FSPassengers could deal with them since most of them do not have AFD files (AFCAD files for basic ground layout).

Here is an idea. I kinda doubt it is possible with fspassengers and kacars but could there possibly be a way to generate random coordinates and get paid by how close you can actually land the aircraft to them? Crazy idea, but could there possibly be another program out there to do this? That way we can get some true bush flying. Anyway, just a crazy idea.

Alaskan VA Expansion sounds great if you need any help just let the VA team know.

If anyone else would like to help with routes please let me know. It can be anywhere from a list of airports to a Google Earth map.
Please talk to one of the VA team first about what area you would like to do as there only so many HUBS that we can have.
