  • How to fly for the Virtual Airline

    • To fly for MSF Airways you must install software that reports your flight data back to our servers
    • After following the instructions below, view the Route Map to decide which route you want to fly. Click the actual route leg to see the flight number and distance:
Follow these steps to setup the software needed for MSF Airways
    1. If you don't already have fsUIPC, download and install it here: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html (click the link to the left of "Full release of FSUIPC 4" where it says FSUIPC4 x.xxx)
    2. Extract the .zip folder, right click on Install FSUIPC4.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
    3. When fsUIPC asks for registration, click "Not Now".
    4. Create a folder somewhere for the MSF Airways software to install to such as: C:\MSF Airways\
    5. Download the MSF Airways software here: http://msfairways.net/home/software/...0v1.0.1.11.msi
    6. Unzip then double-click "MSF Airways.msi" to install, set the installer to install to the folder you created
    7. Navigate to where you installed the MSF Airways software to, such as: C:\MSF Airways\
    8. Right click on "kACARS - msFlights.exe" then click Properties, then click the "Compatibility" tab, then near the bottom where it says "Privilege Level or Settings" check the box that says "Run this program as an administrator" then click OK.
Follow these steps to use the MSF Airways software:
*write down your Pilot ID, you can find this by logging into the Virtual Airline website, it will show your Pilot ID in the box on the top right of the page
*you can load FSX either now or later, but to follow along with this guide I suggest you load into KBOS (Boston) now and engage your parking brake(ctrl+.)

    1. Start the MSF Airways program on your desktop
    2. In the top left click Main then Settings
    3. In the "Pilot ID" field type in your pilot id ex. MSF0304
    4. Enter your password in the password field
    5. Click the blue disk to save your information
    6. Click Log In
    7. On the left side of the program click Connect to FS, flight simulator must be running at the departure airport with your parking brake engaged at this point
    8. In the section that says PIREP Data enter the flight number for the flight you would like to complete ex. MSF131
    9. Click Get Flight Info
    10. In the section that says Aircraft Information click the drop-down list to select the aircraft you would like to fly. For smaller aircraft you may select any of the 4,6,8, or 10 passenger options. If your aircraft is not in the list, select a similar aircraft. It is important that you select a aircraft that has a similar passenger capacity to the aircraft you are going to fly. The passenger count affects ticket price revenue and overall airline finances. **You MUST select your aircraft AFTER you enter the flight number as in Step 8, otherwise kACARS will not take your aircraft data**
    11. After selecting the correct aircraft, click the green check mark to the right of the box
    12. When you are ready to depart, click Start Flight (your parking brake engaged at this point)
    13. Once you have completed the flight and have parked, click Stop Flight
    14. Click File PIREP to send your flight data to our servers (your PIREP may take up to 48 hours to be approved)
    15. To get your signature to show in the Pilot Information box:
-go to the virtual airline website and click Pilot Center from the navigation bar
-click Edit My Profile, Email and Avatar under Profile Options
-Where it says Signature Background click the drop-down menu and select either 1,2 or 3 (they are different designs)
    -Click Save Changes

    16. If you want your MSF Airways signature to show up on posts you make in this forum:
-on the VA site, click Pilot Center
-click View my Badge under Profile Options
-copy the bottom link where it says BBCode
-on our main forum website click Settings in the top right of the page next to Log Out
-on the left side click Edit Signature under My Profile
-paste in the link you copied from the VA website
    -click Save Signature

    Notes:
-To find routes have a look at our Route Map (click the actual leg to obtain the flight number)
-You may also obtain route numbers by clicking "Open Bids" on the navigation bar of the Virtual Airline website (must be logged in). Click "Add to Bid" on each flight that you want to take (you can add several at once, you don't have to "add to bids" for each flight you do, but the bids have useful flight information if you are interested)

    VA Rules:

    1. The Landing rate is limited to between 0 and -500 ft/min. Depending on the Aircraft -500ft/min can be a crash, so we think every good Pilot can stay below that.

    2. Total AFK time will be limited to a maximum of 60 min. (i.e If you plan a 5 hour flight, make sure you have the time to monitor the flight. Starting a flight before going to work/school and landing when you return is not fair to the other pilots who monitor the whole flight in front of their PC.) You may "Pause" the flight while away from your keyboard.

    3. Boarding and taxi times are limited to 20 min. total. Pilots get their hours and payments for flying , not for sitting on the ground and collecting time.

    4. Departure or arrival airports must match what you selected in kACARS.

    5. Please, do not use the Slew-Mode while kACARS is running.

    6. No time acceleration. The Sim-Rate should remain at 1x.

    7. Make sure that before you start the flight, you pick the correct Aircraft, press the check mark next to that to apply the passenger load, and set your flightlevel. Proper fuel planning (i.e. http://fuelplanner.com/) means less fuel, less weight and therefore the landing will be much easier.

    8. Stay away from fuel stations after kACARS is started so your plane does not refuel prior to the PIREP being filed. Also, fuel loads at take-off should not be increased during flight (in-flight reloads) and fuel tanks should not be empty at the time of landing.

    9. Before you file the PIREP, check the Flight Log in kACARS on the right hand side. Make sure points 1-8 above have been completed.

Thank you for accepting the terms and happy flying.

    Regards VA-Staff

FSUIPC does come with many different products. It provides ways for 3rd party software to communicate with FSX. Such as how kACARS can get it's data from FSX. But you can also pay the registration fee which then adds/unlocks additional features such as control mapping.
    http://forum.simflight.com/topic/666...n/#entry419275

Everyone IMO should have it installed as it does fix some basic FSX crashes. The registered features though are indispensable to me. I have several different "setups" to simulate single engine prop, dual engine prop, 4 engine prop, single engine jet, 2 engine jet, 4 engine jet, & helicopter. Once I've set up my controller configuration I don't have to revisit it again, and it automatically changes with my aircraft.

You can always download the latest version here: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

Great work! Shouldn't steps 9 and 10 come before 7 and 8 though? When I follow the directions as listed, most of the aircraft info including, ICAO, frame, max. passengers, max cargo, aircraft reg, aircraft type, etc. is overwritten by the default values assigned to the route (i.e. The Basler's passenger limit is reduced from 40 to 12, etc.)

Yes C0p0ut you need to select the route first then the aircraft type.
Can you check my edit and let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks copout, didn't notice that when you "Get Flight Info" it overwrites the aircraft you selected, so it's best to select the aircraft after the flight info.

                  Hey all,

I just noticed the A300 and A310 aren't on the list... any chance they could be added?

                  Thanks ,

                    Hi Kalo,

I'm adding this question to your "how to" because I'm missing the point somewhere and maybe this will help others.

First off, I'm grateful for the persons who take the time to read the flights and approve them so I'm not criticizing their comments, I'm just trying to figure out how to comply.

Evidently, I'm having problems with the aircraft selection process. I do understand that after selecting the flight, I need to select the aircraft, hit the green check, then start flight. All the flights I've flown to date require a 12 pax plane. The closest I have is a King Air with an 11 pax capacity. So, from the drop down, I chose the 12 pax option. That option doesn't fill in the MTOW and other boxes but the system doesn't allow me to add the value. The comments tell me to remember to select the proper aircraft prior to flight.

It must be me.....I can't figure out what step I'm missing. I'd appreciate any guidance you can give me so I'm not a burden on the persons who check my flights.

                    Thank you very much.

                    Bobby

                        Capt Duke:

You are not required to fly a 12 passenger plane on any flight. You may fly any aircraft you like. Just select the one that most closely matches what you are actually flying from the list in the drop down box (The drop down box is near the bottom just above the words "MSFlights.net".) Then click the green check to the right of the drop down box. All the aircraft information will be filled in automatically.

The flight in question looked just fine. Keep flying.

                            Hello VA-Pilots,
A couple of days ago, Kalo sended out an E-mail to hopefully all of you, with our new VA Terms. As a reminder i post it here too :

                            Hello VA-Pilots,

Over the past few weeks, the VA-Staff has been reviewing the Virtual Airline (VA) requirements for msFlights.

Kalo has purchased a new kACARS Server Version for the VA. The Client Version is freeware and currently on version 1.0.1.8.

Starting 1.Nov.2015 we will only be accepting PIREPS from this new Version or any Version upgrades to be released in the future. The old Version, 1.0.1.1,will be disabled.

The FSPassenger Server will be disabled as well. For Pilots who are using FSPassengers, they will have no problem using it privately along with the new kACARS. The proper setup of kACARS 1.0.1.8 can be found here: http://msflights.net/forum/showthrea...&p=271#post271 .

The new kACARS has some additional features like the AFK-Check and a Flight Tracker that will give the VA-Managers the ability to check your flight path from Departure to Destination.

In the interest of fairness to all our Pilots, here our new guidelines for flying the MSFlights Airlines:

Starting a flight before going to work/school and landing when you return is not fair to the other pilots who monitor the whole flight in front of their PC.)
