  • Steam Edition FSX not allowing Direct connect for multiplayer gaming?

I have been an avid FSX flyer for ages and thought I would check out the multiplayer mode in both steam and direct connect to the msflights.net server.

Well I have found that if I connect using the steam check button and log into the MSflights.net server it works, however if i use the direct connect setting (in LAN mode) for 23.255.207.47 that it does not connect. I wonder why this is?

Are these two gaming servers the same server?

    Hi Trosty,

unfortunately the Steam version is not able to connect to a Boxed edition server.

We have our main Boxed server 23.255.207.47 then we have our Steam edition host which is a separate server.

    Hope this helps!

Hello trosty, and welcome to the forums. The answers to your questions are as follows.

msFlights has many servers. These are divided into two sorts of FSX server:
      1. The traditional sort that we've been using for a few years. These were installed with a boxed set of Microsoft DVDs. We call this "Classic".
      2. The new one that relies on a new Dovetail Steam installation. We call this (naturally) "Steam".

One server machine only ever runs either Classic, or Steam, but never both.

There are likewise two sorts of clients that you will have installed on your PC:
      1. Classic
      2. Steam

Classic clients can only connect to Classic servers.
Steam clients can only connect to Steam servers.
Mixing them does not work; it just won't connect.

23.255.207.47 is the IP address for one of our Classic servers. You can connect to it with a Classic client. You will be unable to connect to it with a Steam client.

We have a bunch of Steam servers; just look at the list when you use your Steam id to connect. Look for the ~msFlights.net name. None of those are currently available for direct IP address connection - which doesn't mean it's not possible, it just means we are not revealing the IP addresses, at least not at the moment.

By classic connections, you mean using hostspy13 and hostclient et al while running the steam version. I haven't tried that set up yet. I will go give it a go and report back shortly.

OK, been off and checked and I can't get the Steam edition to connect (flying) to a multi session server. The chat screen opens and connects but I don't get the multiplayer add-on show in FSX so I can't connect and fly around. I don't know if FSUIPC4 (registered) has an aversion to hostclient though..

Ah well, it was worth a shot.

            Hi KimChoc,

We are operating two servers, one is open with no password (msflights.net Public) and a closed for members of msFlights.net (msflights.net members). The password for this is accessible on our teamspeak so please join us there.

Yes. LOL> I figured it out on my own so must have deleted the post while you were replying.

But as a follow up. do you think you guys could sync the time to EST? I was there now and its dark. ?
It used to say "EAST' and the ping is very low, figured since I am east coast USA. The public, is extremly high ping. Thanks for the server/s

MSFlights.net servers are usually set to GMT -7. This is to allow users from all over the world to fly their local area after they finish school / work / afternoon constitutionals.

As to ping times unlike First person shooters ping time is not everything in flight sims. As long as it is in the yellow not the red you will have no problems.

Not whether to post here or not, but me and my brother are trying to play over a LAN and having problems connecting to each other. we both have steam editions on our computers. I wonder if we might be doing something wrong.
