  • FSX not running smoothly on nvidia card

Seems like neither the boxed version or steam version fsx solved this problem.. FSX is not using my gpu fully.. My gpu runs most games at 30-40fps but unfortunately on fsx it runs at 50fps and then dips down to 17fps at times and on average just 20fps.. Is this something to do with ndivia? or is it just fsx being.. FSX... :apathy:

    Have a look at this.
It's not specific to Nvidia but should help you.

If you don't use BOINC or World Community Grid then you should!

FSX is an old old game by GPU standards. It was released in 2006 and builds on technology going back to the 1980s. It barely uses the capability of modern graphics cards. It does a high proportion of graphics processing in the CPU(s). Games produced more recently will fare a lot better with frame rates.

This means that upgrading a graphics card for FSX is unlikely to have much substantial effect, compared to, say, upgrading the CPU(s). Such an upgrade may, however, improve the performance of more modern games that delegate graphics functionality to the GPU.

There are several reasons for what your experiencing, but I guarantee you that having a Nvidia video card is definately not the issue. More than likely, you are not running a buffer pool in your FSX.cfg. Might I recommend Venatubo to tweak your cfg files.....

Additionally, your 3d Graphics settings in the nvidia control panel could have a huge impact. Namely, check to ensure that your triple buffering is OFF. you will find this setting, again in your 3d settings, perhaps under OpenGL. your frame rates will improve 4 fold.
