See HawgDawg about problems with sim1.dll. From what I remember it may be due to a problem with an aircraft texture file (not sure).

One piece of advise, sometimes reinstalling all of FSX without knowing what the real problem is unnecessary, time consumming, and may not fix the real problem. Its may be better to look for more specific answers first before going "nuclear" with an FSX reinstall.

However there are times when a reinstall is advisable, but this is usually reserved for larger issues or when most other options have been tried.

hi, theese kind of appcrashs are normal for fsx under win 7 . we all have this from time to time and the names of the .exe's can change. one good help for less or no crashes is........ download the UIAutomationCore.dll for windows Vista, put it in your fsx folder, then open the CMD as admin, go there to your fsx folder and register the dll (regserv32 UIAutomationCore.dll).than go to OS Windows/system32 , find the original UIAutomationCore.dll and take over the rights and rename .dll in .bak. this should resolve the crashes to a minimum. good luck

Thanks for the information, but I did all that awhile ago.

Just talked to HawgDawg, and you should really talk to him ASAP.

In answer to the question, Sim1.dll is almost always associated with the Special Effects that are generated by addon aircraft. Fixing this issue is fairly simple, but you may have to give up the puffy smoke when you land, or some other effect. I can help without a reinstall, and in fact a reinstall will probably not fix your issue, especially if your going to reinstall the same aircraft....

You should come see me even if you have already reinstalled. I will show you how to keep from having to do it again.

DO NOT REGISTER UIAUTOMATIONCORE.DLL! That fix only resolves one issue, when hitting the menu causes FSX to crash.

                http://forum.avsim.net/topic/423502-...-core-problem/

You should not register it no matter what. There is another one in the windows directory that is registered. If you do use the file you just need to place it in the FSX folder, and nothing more. I'm not using it currently, and my FSX has never been more stable.

I do recommend installing FSUIPC, even if you don't buy a license key and run the "basic" version. That also solves many FSX crashes to desktop.

I had the issues of crashing while browsing ingame menus working in win xp, i dont know if i have it in win7, since i put the dll after the install by default.

Malwarebytes is great. I also like using Trend Micro's Housecall as another Antivirus scan. It's web based, so minimal install.

Sometimes though with viruses you do just have to go the full reinstall route. "It's the only way to be sure."
