Kalo, without exception these appear to be AI. You can tell in two ways.
Firstly, when a ship is targeted, a human player will have the prefix CMDR (for 'commander') added to their name, both next to their ship on the main screen and also in the target information panel at the bottom left of the screen. An AI/NPC does not have the CMDR prefix, even though their name may be human sounding (though often, here, it is a generic name). You'll notice that the only human player shown is CMDR N2WT, i.e. Wingman.
Secondly, the sensor scanner display (lower center) shows human players as hollow shapes and AI/NPC as solid. Additionally if that shape is a triangle, it indicates a vessel with hard points deployed, whereas a square indicates the hard points are retracted. You'll notice that there is only one hollow shape shown, and that corresponds to Wingman.
If Alec and Wingman had chosen to play in a private group, the only human players they would have potentially seen would have been members of that group. If they were playing 'open', they could have been joined by other human players from outside the group.
Most of the dozen or so Elite players who are msFlights members are also members of the 'Splithorse' group. However, playing in a group does not mean you will see only a small number of human players, as both PRdude and myself are also members of a group that has 5500 members!

It depends which you mean edd.- If they're on the main screen and they're fairly bright and long, then they're are probably lasers or other weapons from other ships.
- If they're on the main screen but they're shorter, dimmer and more transient - like meteors - then this is space dust flashing by that shows the direction of travel and which way you're looking.
- If you mean the vertical lines on the lower central sensor/scanner, which is equivalent to a local radar, that join the sensor disc either up or down to ship echos, those are simply diagrammatic line that show whether the echo is from a ship above or below the plane of sensor disc. They're usually more solid, but may flicker if the ship is untargetable because has a weak signature that is not yet resolved.
