  • Orbx and XP11

Orbx cryptically announced development for XP11. While the announcement didn't directly say XP11, it did reference 64 bit architecture. As XP11 is the only flight sim using 64 bit we are left to connect the dots. I'd bet they're chatting with Laminar Research about licensing and such as the reason they weren't more clear.

The real reason that I am posting this is to draw attention to the amount of Facebook chatter the post resulted in. It appears there is quite a bit of consumer excitement over XP11.

Well really all they talk about is 64bit platforms. All the major families are going that way. The leaked confirmation earlier in the year that P3D will go that way in its next evolution; the new Dovetail entry will be 64bit (which we already knew Orbx was going to be part of) and XP11. Aerofly would be my guess as one of the other projects listed as it needs something to save it's ass.

    Just my two cents....

Given the level of interest expressed in the comments and knowing how shrewd of a business man the guy that runs Orbx is I will stay with the XP11 guess. All your points are still valid however. Thanks for chiming in and I hope you're wrong. :bi_polo:

My read of the Orbx statements and knowledgable reaction and analysis to those Orbx words, cryptic for sure, would also include at least Dovetail's next sim. If Dovetail, then P3Dv4.next also, I might assume.

It seems that the foray of Orbx into the X-Plane world was exceptionally short lived.

Today confirmed that they were developing for but have now abandoned the plans for a line of X-Plane 10/11 products. It also confirmed my suspicion that the Project A was for AeroFly FS2. Additionally the other projects appear to also be confirmed as P3D v4.X and the new Dovetail Sim.
