  • Landing a Bad Idea: Tubes vs. Small Airports

Hey folks! I know I haven't been around much recently, however I have had a chance to fire up my sim for the first time in ages. I love landing in places I shouldn't, in planes that shouldn't, because in the simulator I don't have to worry about potential consequences or runway weight limits. So yesterday I took a 727-100 with 26,000lbs of cargo and 59% fuel (as I crossed the threshold) and tried to wedge it into KTEX (Telluride) in Colorado. That is DEFINITELY a one way airport. Because of the high altitude (final began at 12,000) I was at almost 90% N1 on final, max flaps. Landed, popped spoilers, got on the reversers, and rode the breaks past midfield. Great time getting in, getting out was insane too. Anyway, where do you guys go in the sim to do things that would be called "ill-advised" in the real world? What do you fly? Anybody up for flying tubeliners in the mountains?
When God finally says, "King, my office. Now!" I want to go barreling in there half spun out with holes in my clothes, smoke rising from me, and my hair in a mess. I want to be busy. I don't want to go explain myself and not have a great story to go along with it.

I recall a Gimpy with a 747-400 and an outback Australian dirt strip once....

You can try your luck at Columbia, CA designated O22. It's a good looking environment if you add a scenery pack free from Fly Away Simulation. Just a short hop from Yosemite Valley in the Sierra Foothils.

Just yesterday I landed a C130 at all the newly designed papua new guinea ORBX scenery. Definitely one of the most difficult set of landings I've made in a while.

Oh and there was that time on a carrier in a c130
