  • FSX and Windows 10

Well Folks, i think, it is time to open a Thread for Windows 10. My first expiriences are...Very Good!
First i wanna talk about the upgrade....I have Win7 Home Prem in spanish, but i'm german and live in spain and i'm happy that you can change the language now what ever you need.
First a couple if info link's you should read:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/c...de_microsofts/
    https://bgr.com/2015/07/30/windows-1...tion-settings/
    https://www.yahoo.com/tech/s/windows...130502898.html
    Thanx to Kalo for this.
The next point is, that a lot of Simmers having problems that the upgrate runs not to the end... i found a post on https://fullterrain.com/ in the german forum about it, so i wanna share it here in hope it helps:
"...stating that "Installation failed in the First_boot phase with an error during migrate_data operation".

Thought I'd share a fix (as there appear to be a few others on the ORBX forums hitting this too). Found that there was an error with an ORBX file called "TODO" in the C:\Users\Dylan\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\S tart Menu\Programs\Orbx (after hunting around in the C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther diagerror.log).
I dicided to do a clean fresh install of everything and use only FSX:SE and P3D now. So i wiped all out, installed Windows 7 Home Premium.
I did not run any update and i put my flashdrive in and started the setup.exe, Done!! Here the link to create the flashdrive or disk:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
so no waiting for the Reservation.

After it was done, i installed FSX:SE and P3D, where i'm still working on with scenery and addon installations. Right now i can say, it is amasing... So stay tuned for more infos here and feel free to to post you questions here or meet me in TS.

Thanks for the info Casey. Still not sure. Why even bother with Win10? I don't see what it offers that I would put to use.

Fresh install FSX on XP is amazing.
I've seen the same reaction after steam came out, it was simply fresh install with no add-ons.
Tell us what is amazing other than fresh install?

      I am on the fence

Well Karl, you don't have to fresh install it, just do the upgrade and test it, if you don't like it, do a systemreset from the day before the upgrade and all is like before :-)

Thanks Casey. I'm not willing to try that on my primary system. I am considering doing a restore of my current system on a separate drive and upgrading that. Perhaps next week. This week has been too busy.

No complaints here. Upgraded from 7, everything is working just fine. I hated everything about Windows 8 but I've been enjoying using Windows 10 so far.

Windows 10 64 bit and FSX STEAM

Hello everyone. Just thought I would post this. I am now using Windows 10, 64 bit, and so far everything seems to be working fine with FSX STEAM. Windows 10 user interface is a lot different to windows 7 and it has taken me a couple of days to navigate through it.

I am happy to report that my Saitek X52 installed and my TIR 5 are both working very well in Windows 10 with FSX steam edition right now. I still need to install my Saitek combat rudder pedals and my Cessna trim wheel. Hopefully these install as easily as the X 52pro did.

After the X52pro driver install, "I used the windows 7 64bit drivers" and starting up FSX STEAM the flight sim asked me if I wanted to allow the Saitek X52 pro control of the axis's of the game. I said yes. Sort of reminded me of TACPAC asking you when you first start up FSX if you want to use it or not. Very similar.

Anyway not out of the woods yet!!!! Still need to install rudder pedals and Cessna trim wheel but so far I like windows 10:smile-new:

I did a fresh install of windows 10 on my laptop from windows 8. The only down side about windows 10 is that my mouse pointer cannot be seen at all and can't use it obviously except if I plug in a external mouse into my laptop then the mouse works.

Update: I had to download the touchpad driver manually for my laptop from my manufacturer. When I downloaded the windows 10 driver it doesn't work, but had to download the windows 8.1 driver (My previous windows).

most of the Laptops using "Synaptics"software for the pointer. Try to google for a valid driver.

Thanks for the information about WIN 10. I updated recently to WIN 10 on the computer that I use for the majority of my flying on FSX. The previous version i upgraded from was WIN 7. Since I updated to Win 10 I have had some problems when I want to end my flight. Previously, I would hit Esc and get a sub menu giving me three choices of what I want to do (continue flight, etc.). Now using WIN 10 when I hit Esc I get nothing but a black screen, and have to end up using Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to the task manager and then shut down FSX completely, then load the FSX again if I want to fly something else. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong or need to change on any of my settings? A little frustrated with WIN 10.

What happens when you go into FSX menu and select end flight from there? It should yield the same result but perhaps not.

Additionally have to tried with different aircraft?

Karl, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the FSX menu and select end flight and see what happens. I am pretty sure I have had this problem with different types of aircraft. I'll see what happens and post a response.
