  • Rebuilding La Guardia

I just saw this as a headline while checking my email and thought some folks might be interested. Project isn't slated to start until 2019 and I don't think it's through the final stages of approval yet, but I know we have some people from around there.

Thanks for that, Tim. If keeping KLGA is considered a good thing overall, it very definitely needs a lot of work - and quickly. It is without doubt the scruffiest airport I've visited in the whole world (well... the 20 countries that I've lived in, worked in or vacationed in) and is, quite honestly, a national embarrassment in a prominent and conspicuous place. However, $4 billion seems too little; I doubt they'll have any change from $6 billion.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that bad. The northeastern US is one of the few parts of the country I haven't flown into yet. I've heard people make jokes about KLGA but didn't realize how dilapidated it was.

I don't know... they can probably do quite a bit at $4 billion. KSLC has just started a redevelopment project, basically tearing down and building all new terminal, concourses, gates, etc... The only things staying are the runways and control tower. This is being done at $1.8 billion. While KSLC isn't nearly as large/prominent as La Guardia, it is a Delta hub and thus has a lot of flights.

(If you're interested you can see info about it here: http://www.slcairport.com/TRP-learn.asp)

While checking my email again I came across another article discussing airports. It's a list of the top 10 'worst'. I'm curious what some of the people here think. I found it vindicating that Miami International is on there. I dread flying through that airport on the way to the Caribbean. Not only do I not like the airport itself but the people working there always have very poor attitudes.
