To really enjoy our VR streaming flights, I've found an app that will pipe Discord, LittleNavMap, and streaming services into X-Plane VR just to name a few!
More generally, it can pipe either, any open window OR your entire desktop output into any VR program.
The software is OVRdrop - and does it really well with my HTC VIVE.
There are some compatability issues for Occulus Rift users that I can't comment directly on and I'd refer you to their steam site to check it out.
OVRdrop - is available on steam for $14.99 USD currently.

Update 7/5/18 : Randy and I flew today from KEUG to KSLC - during the flight in my VR MD-82 I had LittleNavMap and Discord in the cockpit with me using OVRdrop. Handy! I'd insert Randy's pic of us at the terminal if I knew how..
