  • Aerofly FS

Has anyone ever tried this sim??
It looks great and they have a decent lot of aircraft.

$40.00 on Steam that comes with a small number of default aircraft. (More for more aircraft.) Switzerland only. Single player only at present (the skies might get very lonely!).

I have no idea whether any of the planes are moddable, such as adding/changing instruments like I do on FSX. But it seems not a true interactive virtual cockpit anyway (as far as I can read).

Might be fun in a couple of year's time.

aeroflyFS is a daytime VFR aerobatics simulation, like a modern version of Flight Unlimited 1/95. It pairs well with avionics/navigation sims like X-Plane 10 or FSX, but doesn't replace them.

What it does well is Unlimited category aerobatics, ridge soaring, and wave soaring.

aeroflyFS is currently missing interactive cockpits, a day cycle, navigation, and multiplayer, but these are planned for updates. It has potential.

when I flew it at a trade show a number of years ago, that is pretty much all they can do in its current form. It has really good flight dynamics for both soaring and aerobatics but not much else.

Visually appealing, yet leaves something to be desired. That was my reaction after playing it for 2 hours at AirVenture 2012.

Thanks for all the info guys! Much appreciated and saved me money, doesn't sound like anything I would be interested as of yet.

I realize this is an old thread but since the developer is working on releasing Aerofly 2, I thought I'd add my 2 cents here.

I do have Aerofly FS on the Steam platform and Aerofly 2 on my iPad.

On Aerofly FS on Steam. As posted above, it's not as "full versioned" like FSX, XPlane, and Prepar3D but I do enjoy it periodically because of the incredibly detailed 3D scenery. Aerofly FS is set only in Switzerland yet it's hard drive space is the same as FSX which encompasses the whole world. One can only imagine the drive space needed if Aerofly did the whole world.

Aerofly 2 is set in the San Francisco Bay Area and, according to the developer, will be available for the PC soon. I probably will buy it because, in my humble opinion, it gives a small taste towards the goal of "as close to real life" as we would like to see out the window of a simulator.

As Storm says, it does get very lonely without MP and it also doesn't have ATC. It's only redeeming factor is the stunning graphics but, I do find myself flying the sim periodically.

Thanks for adding your thoughts, Bobby. I don't think anyone can disagree that graphical quality improvements are always a welcome change in our flight simulators. My question/hope is that a developer can achieve it while still integrating as much immersion into the act of flying as possible by providing:

                - Realistic flight dynamics
Including weather-related changes to flight dynamics.
                - Operable instruments and Controls
The more things that can be manipulated by hand on the aircraft that can be manipulated in-game, the better.
                - A smooth frame rate
Though it's assumed that better graphics requires stronger (read: more expensive) hardware to run at "smooth" frame rates.
                - Life
AI traffic, active roadways/waterways, airport ground ops, peopleflow, ATC, multiplayer.
                - Space
All I ask for is the world... though I admit that being limited to Hawaii and Alaska wasn't yet a major impedance to our enjoyment of Microsoft Flight! by the time of its demise.
                - Variety
                3rd-party development of add-ons.
                - Weather
You know, the hot/cold/wet/interesting/dangerous/beautiful stuff that makes each flight unique.

If AeroFlyFS-2 incorporates some of these menu items, then we're moving in the right direction!

What I would like to see in a new sim is a career mode. I want to start out signing up for flight lessons...passing the test...getting a job flying tourists or something. Have missions that make you money and XP. Have the ability to be hired by other companies. Make it so you get out and talk to maint. people....where you have to pay for services.

                    Hi Splithorse,

You may be interested in Air Hauler 2. What you want is pretty close to what the developer is working on. http://https://www.facebook.com/AirHauler/

Split, you would be quite challenged by the lesson structure provided in FSX already! It makes the path from the first lesson to achieving your mock Private certificate seem like a "career." I remember trying it ages ago and having difficulty with the seemingly simplest of modules. In fact, I may have another go at it, now that you've reminded me of it.

I do like the lessons that fsx has and I have taken many of them, but it doesn't go far enough. What I really want is a single player game where you have missions...fun missions like in GTA V. You could have smuggling missions that make you money or land you in jail. Like an RPG. The multiplayer could be like GTA V also where you can have races or cargo hauling or site seeing or blah blah blah....ok I'm rambling....

I am also waiting for Air Hauler 2.....waiting and waiting and waiting....it was due a year ago......
