  • FSX: Steam Edition Compatibility Guide

    Greetings fellow Aviators,

with the release of FSX:Steam Edition there have been many questions around the compatibility of add-ons with the Classic (Boxed) version of FSX and the new Steam edition.

This will be a growing document that will be updated as time goes on and more add-ons are tested. Please leave your experiences below and we will update the main listing here. This will not be a complete list of Freeware aircraft but ones that are popular in the community, however again as above feel free to list your experiences below.

Additionally there is a great resource on the Steam Forums with some extensive testing completed by other users.

Currently the recently released Steam edition is not compatible with ASN. ASN for FSX requires FSX Standard, Deluxe or Gold DVD editions. We are working on a potential near-term solution and will have more news on this soon.

I've installed Nemeth, A2A and IRIS aircraft but have not thoroughly tested them. Installations were easy. Just had to redirect the installation path.

What i tested with A2A, don't pass them over from Classic FSX, fresh install and they work. Maybe some Tail/Wing Lights of the P51 and other's are missing, but Dovetail is trying to fix this in their next update, because some of the default aircrafts showing same issue's.

Josh, I would be very interested to hear about the Nemeth Design products and their functionality!

We have been working vigilantly on attempting integration with Steam Edition, but we are up against some stability issues. This has required a complete redesign of our ASConnect module for the Steam Edition and we are now in the process of finishing redesign, testing and optimization. We are also in communication with Dovetail. We hope to have a stable version available soon, and will keep you posted as we get nearer. Thank you for your patience while we finish development of this new FSX: Steam Edition integration module.
So nothing conclusive yet, but I will keep this thread informed.

Update regarding Active Sky Next on Steam, posted yesterday:
Originally posted by Damian Clark, President and Lead Developer of HiFi Technologies, 2015-02-01
Over the past months we have been working on a complete re-design of the ASConnect code for better performance and compatibility with FSX:Steam Edition. We've also been preparing several other improvements and fixes to all be included in Service Pack 2.
We have completed the ASConnect re-design, and we are currently ironing out the last remaining issues. This has been a difficult update, as we've been up against stability and freeze problems in FSX:SE even plain/default without any add-on including ASN. Fortunately we have been improving stability more each day, Dovetail has been active with updates, and we should be ready to begin official internal beta in the next few days.

We are planning to expedite the public availability of the update, by releasing it in "Open Beta" form before the official release. This open beta period is likely to start within 1-2 weeks after initial beta starts (so that's around Feb 10-15). Unfortunately, as much as we'd like to guarantee this timeline, we cannot. Rest assured we're working very hard on getting this update to you as soon as we can achieve a proper level of stability.

More news on the SP2 update will be coming soon in preparation for open beta. Thanks to all for your patience!
Sounds like progress. I'll continue to post updates.
