  • Elite: Dangerous is 10% off!

If you were hesitating, waiting for it to be on offer, Elite: Dangerous is now 10% off. That will save you $6.00 (or £4.00).

At the time of writing there are 15 or so members of our FSX community who are also Commanders (Elite: Dangerous pilots). We have our own website forum (you're here, reading it!) and our own Teamspeak lobby. Why not join us?

You can buy Elite: Dangerous directly from Frontier Developments here.

Or, if you must, you can get it through Steam. However, I do not recommend getting it through Steam if you want to support Frontier Developments! Although Steam is convenient for some people (certainly not for me), naturally Valve charges Frontier for their distribution service, and I would much rather Frontier kept those extra monies and used them for development.

Still hesitant? Find out more about Elite: Dangerous here.

Advice for those considering getting it on Steam: The discount mentioned above is the standard for the duration of the sale. Look to see if the title comes on the front page of Steam as every day there is a selection of titles which are heavily discounted for a limited time (usually 8-36 hours only)

Or as Storm has said support the DEVS!!!

It's on sale for 25% off for the next 44 hours...however I think Ill wait till this the end of the summer sale (this Sunday) to see if they offer a higher discount....I might get stuck with only the 10% off but I'm willing to take the risk

Usually when it's a featured item like today, that's the lowest it goes. I was disappointed I didn't get an email from Steam that a wishlist item was on sale.

I did notice that Frontier matched the price on their direct store... so now it's do I want it in my Steam library more or more money to the devs...

Kalo you can afford to take this risk! Many older/younger cannot. I doubt it'll get better than 25%, but who knows. Where to get it = no brainer.

                Kalo,

when a title comes up for a daily deal that is the lowest it goes, so if you are going to get it get it now!

hmmm I always thought the Steam summer sale tried to lure in potential customers early in the sale with lets say a 25% off sale before they offer a better one. I haven't bought a video game in a long time...so even $45 for one sounds really steep

Well I played for 90 minutes last night... half that was probably watching youtube tutorials to learn how to fly, fight, etc... At first I kept overheating so I had to figure that out (still not sure as it was a toggle on my throttle that stopped it)....

But it's definitely cool. I'm excited to learn it more. And may have to try it out with my buddies Oculus...

It's now in the last chance "Yesterday's Deals" category on Steam... so 23 1/2 hours left as of this writing. (ends at 10 AM Pacific Daylight Time). Hopefully the Frontier store matches through that time.

Excellent! That make four new commanders. We'll all do our best to help. Meanwhile my advice is to do all the training scenarios (fiddling around with adjustments and button assignment as you wish), watch all the videos (except the Powerplay ones) and join our private group (called Splithorse). I would recommend NOT to join in on Powerplay as yet, which would involve "pledging allegiance" to a power.

Outside of training there are three ways of playing:
                        • Private group, where the only human players you meet are from that group. The rest are AI/NPCs.
                        • Solo, where you meet no other human players. Everyone else is AI/NPC. Equivalent to group size = 1.
                        • Open, where any human players you meet are also playing in open. There are also AI/NPCs. Equivalent to group size of the whole world minus those playing in private groups or solo.
I recommend that, at least at first, you play in the private Splithorse group. That way, we are likely to be able to see you and offer assistance, and you don't have to deal with trigger-happy maniacs = other players.
