  • Repainting Windows 10

    Good Day Everyone.

At this point I think I'm going back to windows 7. I've been trying to repaint an aircraft in FSX, but no matter what changes I make to the texture sheet has no effect.

I've tried right clicking on FSX's main folder in properties, under the general tab unchecking the read-only, but when I right click the folder again and click the properties the read-only is check marked again It will not let me uncheck the read-only.

Please help if you can, so far Windows 10 is junk.

    Thank you,
    Kenny FSV1142

    Hi Kenny,

    Couple of things
    1) Are you using Boxed or Steam?
    2) Is your FSX installed in the default location?
    3) are you the only account on your PC?
    4) what program are you using for repaints?
    5) are we talking Default aircraft or 3rd party?

I use Windows 10 and produce a large volume of liveries (shameless self advertising at http://www.novawing24.com) with no issue.

The main trick is to make sure that you have ownership of the folders that FSX is installed in. In Windows 10 you may need to go to the top level directory and right click and choose from the properties the Security Tab and make sure you have full permissions for that folder (and its sub folders)

Beyond that you also need to make sure you are using the correct format (bmp or dds) and that it is not trying to alias a file from a different folder (delete the texture.cfg file to experiment with this to see what is being aliased)

Just some tips to get you started.

    Safe skies

check to make sure you have permissions / ownership of the directory.

Beyond that is it due to you not seeing the repaint at all or is it just not refreshing after you copy in an updated version of the texture?

I am able to repaint the same aircraft in FS9, it refreshes just fine, but not FSX. I did make sure that I have ownership of the drive that FSX is in. The funny thing is FS9 is in the same drive as FSX.

I use Paint Shop PRO 9 and DXTBmp editor. I never had a problem with these programs in Win7.

Will I figured it out. It wasn't windows 10, it was a mess up by me. I forgot to change the texture= line to my new texture folder. Usually it's is something simple.

            Thank you,
            Kenny.

Don't feel like the lone stranger on that one, Kenny. I've done it more than once.

It's a good thing I went out of town yesterday. It forced me to step away from the computer and gave me time to think it through.
