One final comparison, this time with mountains (and sea) ... and a surprise

    March 22, 16:15
    Clear skies
    Kahului Bay, Maui (PHOG)
    5800ft
    All images half-size

And just for the record! ...

In my humble opinion, the best of those is very definitely FSX with Shade ON but with ENB OFF.
Conclusion: Run Shade all the time (which is the way it runs anyway) but toggle ENB on/off as desired (shift F12).

I like that last set of shots... really shows the differences... especially with MSFlight thrown into the mix!

          Some more information:

The developer of ENB, Boris Vorontsov, has documentation HERE so you can tinker with its configuration in the enbseries.ini file and create your own version.

I've just discovered that the developer of Shade, Steven Hingley, supplies his own suggested enbseries.ini file for using ENB with Shade. I did NOT use it before, so I have taken some new pictures with it activated, with and without Shade. The config is like this:

Be aware that the above configuration this switches on automatically at FSX load time. Shift F12 will toggle it off. Also note that it is configured to be more processor intensive than Angel's, though I notice no hit at all on my frame rate.

Take a look at the following snapshots, where ENB-V2 refers to Hingley's configuration. You'll notice that the overall effect with Hingley's configuration with ENB on is lighter, not darker like Angel's, and makes the horizon an attractive silver, and yet the mountain valleys still look better with Shade switched on.
