  • Control on SimLink with the FSX Radar

I was aware that the different ATC clients for SimLink were causing some confusion.

The different clients were the only way to control on SimLink as the default FSX radarscreen didn't show the SimLink aircraft on it as standard, even though you could see the aircraft from the tower window when connected to SimLink.

Because of this I have now built a small program that enables SimLink aircraft on the FSX radar.
This means that the default FSX radar is now usable with SimLink, which is what most controllers are familure with.

The program isn't perfect as it will not display the session Information on a SimLink aircraft, but it does show them on the radar screen which is what you need.

    ****To use the program***

    **Basic Instructions**
Start the programs in this order.
    1. Start FSX as an ATC controller.
    2. Start this program.
    3. Connect with Vpilot or FSINN to SimLink as an Observer, Aircraft type = ATC.

You can connect to a multiplayer server, see the aircraft on that server and the SimLink aircraft.

    **More detailed instructions**

ATC Vpilot settings are as below...
Callsign = the airport you are at and your position (ie KLAX_TWR or EGCC_APP)
    Aircraft type = ATC.
    Click Connect as OBSERVER
    Click Connect.

The big plus side by connecting to SimLink is you will get more aircraft to control, as you will now be able to see the aircraft from the multiplayer session as well as FS9, FSX Boxed, FSX Steam, P3D, Xplane and Flight Gear all on one screen.

If you only want to see SimLink Traffic you can start ATC in Freeflight mode.
    1. Start FSX and go to Local Network LAN and click sign in.
    2. Click Host a session (bottom right).
    3. Select Freeflight for the session Type, put anything you like in the other boxes and click next.
    4. Select Air Traffic Controller in the role drop down box, Select the airport you want to control, weather you would like and Time of day.
    5. Click SAVE and save the flight as KLAX Tower (replace KLAX with the airport you chose).

Complete steps 4 and 5 for every airport you would like to have quick access too when wanting to control.

    6. Once all the airports you'd like are created click back and sign out which should take you back to the main FSX login screen.
    7. Select Free Flight from the top left.
    8. From the Free Flight screen select Load half way down the screen.
    9. Select the Tower you would like to control at and click Fly Now.
FSX Will load you into the Tower view at the airport you chose.

If you have the AI aircraft enabled you will see them on the radar screen.
I would advise turning AI traffic off when controlling.

To see the SimLink aircraft you would need to open the program I created.

Connect your sim to SimLink as you would were you a pilot, but tick the Box that says connect as an Observer.
By selecting OBSERVER the pilots you are controlling will not see a substituted aircraft for you hovering over the control tower.
You will also show to any controllers using radar clients like Euroscope or VRC so that they will know that you are open.

    ATC Vpilot settings as below...
Callsign = the airport you are at and your position (ie KLAX_TWR or EGCC_APP)
    Aircraft type = ATC.
    Click Connect as OBSERVER
    Click Connect.

This program will work with VATSIM and IVAO but please DO NOT use it on their networks.
Vatsim and IVAO only allow specific software to be used on their network, and this is not one of them.

If your unsure how to connect to SimLink read this post, but use the details above to connect as ATC.
