  • New Orbx mystery product ---> FTX Global Vector

Just a heads up that we are planning a major product announcement hopefully by this weekend if we finalise all business agreements and the alpha build. It is another global product with a single installer that will dramatically change the whole sim experience when used in conjunction with FTX Global.

We will have screenshots, details and also announce a free demo which is an entire country using the new product + openLC in harmony.

    Stay tuned!
So what will this one be... With what they have, versus the clue as far as it being country/world based... Mesh? Vector roads/coastlines? Those are the two biggies I can think of. Any other guesses?

And by the way, these guys gotta stop releasing so much stuff! A2A 172, PMDG 777, 4 Orbx airports (1 of which I really want). The DX10 fixer app is due to be released in the next week or so... Too much stuff and my poor wallet can't do it all!

That looks really nice but I wish they wouldn't mess with airport elevations, "Corrected airport elevations".

For people that fly primarily in multiplayer this is not that great because when you fly in a group, you will see people without this either up in the air or down inside the earth.

Interesting.. the folks developing the Vectors is the same company who makes FS Global Mesh. Not only that, but they will be offering Iceland for free, including OpenLC, Vector data AND FS Global Mesh for the region. I think its only a matter of time before they announce some sort mesh product, whether its in conjunction with PILOT's or not.

So.. at what point do the Orbx regions become obsolete? If I have Orbx textures, landclass, vectors and mesh, what else makes up an Orbx region? Their "Flows" like PeopleFlow, StaticFlow etc, and some of the detail they put into airports in the regions. Custom textures, yes, but the landclass data will have that.

I can pay about 300 bucks and get the entire world, why would I spend 40 dollars on a VERY small chunk of that? Going to be interesting to see what Orbx is doing a year from now.

Waterman, if its PAJN you're after, be warned that it isnt very DX10 friendly, and when someone made a (respectful and insightful) topic about it, John Venema closed it because he was tired of people "berating" developers (which didnt happen in the thread whatsoever) and that practically no one uses DX10, so if you want to fix it, you're going to have to wait for this special DX10 tool I keep hearing about.

It was PAJN. I am planning to get the DX10 tool anyway, it will fix all the other freeware planes where the textures don't show up correctly, and will be well worth the money. One day they'll need to wake up and start realizing more and more people are using it, and for them to complain about the users is far worse PR.

Found the thread if you want to check it out. Apparently, none of there 60 employees use DX10. Hopefully once this tool is released, Orbx developers will take it upon themselves to make their works DX10 friendly.
