  • Fs co-pilot

Still flying FSX straight out of the box with zero addons......one thing I was looking for was the altitude call outs when landing. I understand this is FS copilot. Do people still use this? Or is it gone the way of the dinosaur?

Any links for the latest version download?

I think what you are looking for is a GPWS, or Ground Proximity Warning System. Its usually a posh British man, who I find can be rather insulting and insensitive at times! :P

I am not familiar with FS Copilot, but there are GPWS addons, most of them just gauges borrowed from other aircraft that you have to manual add to your aircraft, which can be no easy task.

Here is the only tutorial I could find that I would be comfortable recommending, I've seen some of his videos before and he knows his way around FSX pretty well, and most of the comments confirm that it is working.

Remember, backup your files before changing them. One wrong line in a .cfg edit can really mess things up.

Thanks, looks like too much work to install just for default ac.. Do most third part AC have altitude callouts?

It depends. What aircraft are you interested in having the callouts for? As you would expect, a Cessna 172 wouldnt have those callouts, but a Boeing 737 would. If you are interested in having it for a specific aircraft, there is usually an upgraded version of he defaults that might contain the file. There is a great upgrade for the default 737 for example, so finding it for a specific aircraft might be the better option.

Alternatively, after some google-fu, I have found a gauge on some obscure Japanese flightsim blog that you can add to any aircraft of your choice. Download and extract the readme file and give it a look, see if it seems too complicated for something you want to tackle while still being relatively new to FSX and the way it works. The hard part is the editing of the panel.cfg file, if you get that far and are having trouble with that, let me know which aircraft you would like it added to and I will add it to my panel.cfg and upload it for your use.

FSpassengers will take care of the call outs for you on any aircraft as long as your flying a VA route, I would agree it is nice when your flying a heavy(plane+PAX) aircraft to get an idea of just what your vertical speed is.
If you would like, send me the aircraft you want with GPWS and I will put it in the aircraft for you. Its simple when you know what your looking at but it still a little @$$ end backward.

Well JJ, if you're looking for an upgraded default VC for the 737 and 747, Alejandro Rojas Lucena and some other guys created an upgraded VC. It has a GPWS, along with some other perks that aren't in the default. I'd also reccomend some of his other work as he makes some fine aircraft. The VC upgraded is a little ways down, just scroll a bit. Enjoy!

That might be the best option. Of course the next question for me would be how do you install the cockpits.

I believe this is the cockpit I originally used to upgrade my 747-800. GPWS works great and I don't think I would ever want to go back to having a heavy without one. Actually, I like using it on my smaller aircrafts (the GPWS) just for the extra knowledge of my decent. I believe the virtual cockpits Panda is directing you to have an EXE file, if I remember correctly, that will do the install automatically. I believe they also come with an EXE to uninstall.

Well, as C0p0ut stated, I belive it does come with an .exe file to automate the installation process, but if it doesn't, it should at least have ReadMe file, which should guide you through the install. I would guess however, that you have to do a bit of messing with the Gauges file, and the base 747 panel.
