  • Around the World - Soloman Galactic floatplane tour (Thursday September 12th @ 9pm ET)

    Hi pilots,
Lets try something a little different this time. Lets take a little tour of some fictional scenery that I created in the Soloman Islands.

For this flight you will need a float plane such as the default Goose, or the fantastic Stingrey freeware. This is important because most of our stops are not actual airports, so there will be nowhere to land except for the water.
The Stingrey can be found here on Storms skydrive:http://tinyurl.com/storms-skydrive/

I will be flying the Goose and we will be maintaining around 170 knots @ 2,000 to 3,000 feet.

We will be departing AGGY and will be making stops at: Captain Jack Sparrow, Gilligans island, an Aztec temple, and Pandora before making our final stop at Atlantis.
These destinations are fictional so there are no actual airports to navigate to. This is why it is important to use the flight plan that I will post as a reply in the events thread.

The teamspeak channel for this flight will be pass-protected. The password we will be using is the name of our final destination. It appears above in bold and below in the sector comments.

You will need to download the scenery file for this flight in order to participate. This is easy to get and install and I will post full instructions for how this is done. The files can be found on my skydrive here:

Since this is an unusual group flight, It is important to try and be prepared ahead of time. I will do my best to make this as easy for everyone as possible, so please use the resourses I make available.

This is a flight I've wanted to host for a long time, and if evryone is fully prepared we should have a great time. All are welcome to join, but make an effort to be prepared.

    Happy landings,
    Lazerbolt

Here are the scenery files you will need to participate in this flight. Also included is a flightplan that will be very useful navigating.

Instructions for adding the scenery files:
First you need to download all of the .BGL files from the Soloman Galactic scenery folder on my Skydrive.
Now locate the folder: flightsimulatorx/addon scenery/scenery, and copy & paste all of the new files into there. Make sure that it gets put into the "addon scenery/scenery" folder which is different from the normal "scenery" folder.
The next time you start FSX it will rebuild the database and you are all set! Very simple!

If you have any questions regarding how this is done, please contact me or one of the knowledgeable staff around here and we can have it sorted in no time. Please be prepared ahead of time and take care of this before the group flight on Thursday.

    Click for scenery .bgl

Here is the flightplan for the flight. Simply drop the .pln file into your "documents/flight simulator x files" folder and you can then load it into the FSX flightplanner.

    Hope to see everyone there!

Typically I would make a fuss because this conflicts with the State Flights, but this looks fun, let's make it happen
We will resume state flights next Friday.

Let's try and push people to this event post throughout the week.

I believe this was supposed to be Lazer's State Flight. From what I heard in TeamSpeak... And then I believe PRDude was hosting the next State Flight in Puerto Rico.

Ive decided to push this event back a week. Being that this is a bit of an unusual flight (requiring special scenery, and flight plan ect...) I think the extra time will help keep the confusion to a minimum.

The new date for this event is Thursday, Sept. 12th, 9pm eastern.

Hello pilots, as a reminder, this flight is tonight!

Since this flight requires some scenery to be added, be sure to download it to be ready b4 the flight begins if you plan to attend. Thanks!

And please, for the sake of everyone sanity, if you cannot access the website or Teamspeak to view the flight plan while in flight, write it down on a piece of paper! Every bit of information you need to know is in the post above, including preferred type, airspeed, ICAO's, altitude, it's all there.
