  • Airliner Wednesday's (Wednesday August 28th @ 9pm ET)

I decided to start hosting airliner flights every Wednesday.

This will be an ongoing tour of North America. We will start at Washington Dulles (Virginia) and make our way up north, then fly west along the Canadian/US border. Once we reach Vancouver we will fly south along the west coast making our way to Tijuana, then fly east along the US/Mexico before arriving in Florida. We will then fly north making our way back up to Washington Dulles. From Dulles we will fly west through the middle of the United States, finally ending the journey in San Francisco. As you can see this will take some time

Feel free to bring fighter jets if they don't want to fly airliners...just make sure you stay relatively close to the group.

OK, tonight's flight plan will be from KIAD>KPHL>KBOS I know Philly is a bit close for the first leg, but figured we could stop by Jcom's home airport. Also there is a great freeware add on for KPHL.

If you feel like it please download this freeware of KPHL for tonight's flight, you won't be sorry. http://www.sunskyjet.com/sceneries

Here is the flight plan in skyvector form: http://skyvector.com/?ll=40.31597520...RTON:A.K6.KBOS

I know its not the most realistic flight plan, but I inserted waypoints that could give nice long finals to KPHL and KBOS.

Runways we will be landing on:
    KPHL: 9L ILS HDG 085 108.95
    KBOS: 4R ILS HDG 036 110.30

here's a sketch of the course:

Very cool... You planning to try to hit the big/international airports all along that route? Any idea on flight time between legs? I'm thinking of the stuff by me and with your general idea I'm wondering if the west should be Denver-> (1 hour) Salt Lake-> (~40 min) Reno-> (~20 min) Sacramento-> (~20 min)San Francisco (Times are my guesses... I know slc-denver is just over an hour, and slc to sacramento is also about the same time.) That does pack them in pretty good. Those two short legs at the end would suck. But I guess it's like practicing doing pattern work....

Although that does work for the west coast it completely blows apart for the east coast... Lots of airports.

Anyway, sounds great, I hope I'll be able to make them!

Yea, I would try and land at the major airports along that route. You know me, I don't like very long legs. I would like to try and keep each leg around 200nm but this could vary in areas.

I know airliners would not be flying such short legs in real life, but I think its more fun to try and get 2 takeoff/landings in instead of just 1 long leg.

Another thought I had was, if we get that home airport map going of all our members, we could try and land at peoples home airports that are somewhat along the above route. Even if you live far away from a large airport, we could try and stop at peoples closest large airport.

Responding to your request from Oz's thread.

Which reminds me, if everyone in the US/Canada/Mexico could list their closest major airliner airport, I will try and make it a stop in our North American Airliner tour. http://msflights.net/forum/showthrea...%29-08-28-2013
My major airliner airport would be KPHL, Philadelphia International.

Sounds good. What definition of "airliner" will be using? I'm sure most people think of 747s and the like, but not me! (I think I got those out of my system when working in commercial flight simulation for many years. ) Now I fly 1930s propliners like the DH91 (22 passengers, 229kts TAS @ 11,000ft). So I guess my question is, "What TAS cruise will you be aiming for?"

How do these add on airports interact with other addon sceneries like FTX Global?

I'm not sure but I think I remember reading that FTX global works well with add ons. There's also an uninstall icon for the airport, so you could always uninstall it if it gives you trouble.
