  • Sister City Flights - week 7 - Honolulu (Hawaii) - Slow rotorcraft

This week we'll continue in rotorcraft, just slower! Our flight takes us all the way round the island of Oahu.

Honolulu became Hiroshima's Sister City in 1959.

Start Overfly 1st stop Overfly 2nd stop 3rd stop Overfly Last stop
PHNL PHJR PHDH PHHI Z29G/HI57* PHNG XBEL NPS
Honolulu Kalaeloa Dillingham Wheeler Kahuku Kaneohe Bay Bellows Ford Island
*Z29G no longer in X-Plane. See diagram at end of post for HI57 helipad alternate

Flight plans: https://is.gd/StormsFlightPlans (both .PLN and .FMS files available)

Cruise: 80 knots indicated, altitude at pilot's discretion, up to 3,500 ft a.s.l. max. over mountains.

Aircraft: Slow rotorcraft are encouraged (but not mandatory).
    • Slow helicopters, e.g. Bell 47, Robinson R22, Hughes OH-6 Loach, Flettner FL282.
    • Small tilt-rotors, e.g. Verticopter.
    • Autogyros, e.g. Pitcairn PA-18 and PCA-2, ELA-07-S.
Fixed wings are also acceptable, e.g. Tiger Moth, Luscombe, Ercoupe, Seabee (good for HI57).

    Scenery: Default is OK.

    Server: SimLink AU server: 101.165.150.139

Simulators: All welcome: FS9, FSX boxed, FSX Steam edition, Prepar3D, X-Plane.

Where to get these aircraft? Hints for some...
    • The Robinson R22 is default, coming supplied with FSX.
    • The Bell 47 and Luscombe are FSX freeware and can be found in Storm's Hangar.
    • The Flettner and Loach are available at the familiar large download sites!
    • The Verticopter, Ercoupe, Seabee and ELA-07-S are freeware from x-plane.org.
    • A freeware FSX/P3D Ercoupe can be found at Rara-Avis Simulations (was Classic Wings).
    • The Pitcairn autogyros are excellent FSX payware from Golden Age Simulations.

Reminder (and trivia questions!): Bring your slow rotorcraft* to PHNL at 9pm eastern for our 80kt circuit of Oahu.

    Awfully hard™ trivia questions:
    1. We overfly Kalaeloa airport, known as John Rodgers field. Who was John Rodgers?
    2. We'll fly right around the island of Oahu. What is the correct English translation of the name "Oahu"?
    3. A sparkly tuna fin?! What has that got to do with Honolulu?

Answers during the flight only please (not below!). And there'll be plenty more trivia questions later too.

*Slow fixed wing also OK! :eagerness:
