  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #45: Utah - VINTAGE JETS!

Vintage military jet fighters at 350 knots through the Beehive State.

    Week 45: Utah
    67L>KBCE>KCNY>U42>KBYI - GPS Direct

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • All legs are GPS direct.
    • U42 in FSX/Plan-G is now KU42 in real-life/Skyvector. (Also see scenery note.)
    • We may change course on approach, according to surface wind.
Download the PLN flight plans file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 350 knots
    Altitude: up to 11,500 ft

    AIRCRAFT
Vintage* military jet fighters and fighter bombers (* where vintage = first flight at least 50 years ago, i.e. 1965 or earlier).
By all means fly what you flew two weeks ago through California.
There are many suitable freeware aircraft: first and second generation fighters will do nicely.
Many of Robert James Richardson's wonderful freeware aircraft will work well, such as the Attacker, the Meteor**, the Vampire and the Venom (** see the event banner for four msflight pilots' Meteors in formation).

I'll be flying the Gloster Meteor Mk4 (from Robert James Richardson) in red livery by Peter Watkins (see below).

    RESTRICTIONS
    No props.
    No civilian aircraft.
No aircraft that first flew after 1965.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
This is primarily a Classic/Boxed flight.
(You can follow along in Steam or P3D but your security is not guaranteed!)

    WEATHER
The server will be set to live weather. Expect strong gusty southwest breezes.
I will be flying with real world weather with Active Sky Next (client side).

    SCENERY
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
All airports except KBYI (final destination) are OrbX freeware airports. :eagerness:
Ensure you have the latest Orbx NA pack (2015-06-16). Needed for U42.

Reminder: Join us at 67L this evening in your vintage military jet for our 9pm departure. Expect real-life strong gusty southwesterly breezes.
Trivia questions: (Answers and guesses during the flight itself please!)
        1. This picture was branded a hoax in 2006, but it turned out to be authentic. Why the storm?

        2. Gratuitous pretty picture of somewhere 7 miles south of track. Where?

        3. What do Grabthar's Hammer and the autobiography of the Most Intelligent Man on [British] Television have in common, and what do they have to do with our flight tonight?
        4. What's going on here, and where?

Photo credits: Park City Farmers Market and Thomas Hawk
        5. What is this?
