  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #42: Arizona - CANYON RUN!

250 knots through Arizona, including the eastern part of the Grand Canyon. Special scenery is available for the Grand Canyon. If that takes too long to download, try here instead, though you may find the installation trickier!

    Week 42: Arizona
    0V7>KGCN>KDVT>KBLH
    First leg not GPS Direct
    Full flight plan: 0V7>KPGA>L41>canyon>KGCN>KDVT>KBLH

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • The first leg involves low-level flight through the Grand Canyon. See flight map.
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 250 knots +/- 15 knots.
    Altitude: up to 8,000 ft
    • We'll cruise at 240 kts and 8,000 ft for the non-canyon parts of the first leg, and the first two-thirds of the second leg until we've passed Prescott National Forest (15 nmi right-abeam KPRC).
    • The remainder of the second leg will be 255 kts/5,000 ft until we approach KDVT.
    • The last leg will be at 4,000 ft at 255 kts.
    • Expect the run through the canyon to be just above river level at up to 265 kts!

    AIRCRAFT
    Small, very maneuverable aircraft.
Capable of flying at low level through the Grand Canyon at 260 knots.
I will be flying the red Bede BD-5J at full throttle (except for approaches).

    RESTRICTIONS
No large, slow or cumbersome aircraft.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam.

    WEATHER
    To be decided.

    SCENERY
Very strongly recommended: Grand Canyon KGCN V2 FSX & P3D (freeware). If that takes too long to download, try here instead, though you may find the installation trickier!

Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
KGCN is also an OrbX freeware airport, as is KDVT. :eagerness:

What was the link that PR provided? Same scenery or different?

Apparently it's the same scenery but the installation procedure is different (and perhaps trickier for some people).

Thank you Nova! :eagerness: Though at 250 kts, I'm hoping people will be 100ft or so closer to the river.

Trivia: What does the following picture have to do with our flight? Answers and suggestions during the flight itself please.
