  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #41: New Mexico - ROTORCRAFT!

At 90 knots through the Navajo Nation. There is special scenery that must be installed!

    Week 41: New Mexico
    KFMN>5V5>4CRN>49AZ>0V7
    Not GPS Direct
    Full flight plan: KFMN>5V5>SHIPR>4CRN>49AZ>NAVRO>0V7

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • There are special waypoints. Please follow the flight plan.
    • There is a non-FSX airport to install (4CRN). Please download the special scenery.
Download the PLN flight plan file here. (Scenery files also there.)
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 90 knots
    Altitude: 5,000 - 7,000 ft
    Height: 500 - 1,000 ft

    AIRCRAFT
Rotorcraft. Must be able to hover. Must be able to fly 90 kts at 7,000 ft.
All defaults except the Robinson work.
    Rotodynes and tilt-rotors are acceptable.

    RESTRICTIONS
    No fixed wing aircraft.
No rotorcraft that cannot hover (therefore no autogyros).

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam.

    WEATHER
Server specified default is OK. However...
Recommended: Real-world live weather generators, e.g. FSrealWX lite or Active Sky Next.
    • FSrealWX lite is freeware.
    • Active Sky Next is payware. It now works for both Steam and Classic.
I'll be using real-world weather (Active Sky Next).

    SCENERY
Special scenery is required for this flight! Download it here.
    There are two files:
    • AFX_4CRN.bgl
    • corners monument.bgl
Drag these into your Addon Scenery > scenery folder and restart FSX.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery
If you put them in the right place you will see the normal scenery database rebuild messages.
The scenery files were kindly and ably supplied by Lazerbolt. Many thanks :eagerness:

Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
Only our starting airport is an OrbX freeware airport this week.

Optional: There is custom OrbX payware scenery available for our last waypoint (NAVRO) which is quite spectacular but is currently $11.45.

The forecast looks okay for real weather so I won't be changing anything unless I hear from Storm to do otherwise. Chop Chop!

Expecting a gusty westerly breeze and occasional showers. Flying server-default weather will be OK. I will fly Active Sky Next, real-life weather client-side. Thanks Karl.

Reminder: Install your special scenery and bring your rotorcraft to KFMN for our 9pm departure.
          Trivia:
          • What's missing in the sequence: St. Louis, Joplin, OKC, Amarillo, ... , Flagstaff.
          • What have the following in common and what's that to do with our flight tonight?
            • Easy Rider, and The Weight by The Band.
            • Forrest Gump, and Against the Wind by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
            • Mission: Impossible II, and Iko Iko by Zap Mama.
