  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #33: Oklahoma - TWO TON* PROPS!

Through the Sooner State, in two ton* props!
*Ton is British slang for 100, often used when talking about speed.
Thus "Two ton" means 200 kts, not the weight of the aircraft!

    Week 33: Oklahoma
    KGYI>KOKC>KTUL>KICT

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • All legs are GPS direct.
    • We'll change course on approach, according to surface wind.
    • All arrival airports have multiple ILSs, in case of inclement weather. (See maps.)
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps, local area maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 200 knots ("Two ton")
Altitude: 3,000-4,000 ft (use your judgment to avoid obstacles and weather)

    AIRCRAFT
Propeller aircraft, large or small, capable of 200 kts cruise.
    • Default: The Beech King Air 350 is a good choice.
    • Storm's OneDrive: Lots of choices:
      • Antonov An-12
      • Antonov An-32
      • Bede BD-5 (prop version)
      • Bristol Beaufighter
      • DH91 Albatross
      • Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar
      • Howard 500
      • Lockheed Constellation 749
      • Smeiman Stingray
      • Spartan 7W Exective
      • Sus Scrofa SS-4P
    • Other freeware includes: Robert James Richardson's Cessna 310Q and Airspeed Ambassador.
    • Payware includes: RealAir Simulation's Lancair Legacy and Duke.

    RESTRICTIONS
    No jets.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam. We will continue to use Classic in future weeks for the Great 48! until I can assure pilot security for the flight, at which point we'll include Steam in joint Classic/Steam flights, leaving no one behind!

    WEATHER
Real life weather is forecast to be windy and rainy. With ILS runways this is OK but it's not good for sight-seeing, so use of Active Sky Next (or similar) is not recommended tonight.
The server will be set to fair weather.

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
This week, however, we are not visiting any Orbx airports.

The server will be set to fair weather for tonight's flight. Real life weather will be windy with thick cloud and heavy rain. Although all airports have ILS runways, bad weather is neither good for sight-seeing nor airplane screenshots, so use of Active Sky Next (or similar) is not recommended tonight.
