  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #31: Louisiana - AIRSHIPS!

The Shreveport Shuffle - across the northwestern tip of the Pelican State in airships!

    Week 31: Louisiana
    KELD>KSPH>KBAD>KASL

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • All legs are GPS direct, BUT...
    • We may break off and fly low along the I-20 for part of the last leg.
    • Final approaches will be into wind. Land where you can!
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 60 knots
Altitude: Low VFR (using your judgment to avoid obstacles)

    AIRCRAFT
Airships only. There are two suitable airships on my OneDrive. (See pics below.)
    • Zeppelin NT, available in the Modern Oddities hangar. (We flew this through Delaware and Florida.)
    • Goodyear K-class blimp, available from the Factory Floor. (Some of us flew this through Florida.)
    Notes:
    • Zeppelin: This is a modern aircraft used for touring and advertising, and it is by far the more maneuverable of the two. I supply a patch that adds GPS, instead of Aerosoft payware, plus ASN WX radar (if you have it). Please read the README and short manual carefully to familiarize with the aircraft. You will need to use the start-up sequence described there!
      • The Zeppelin NT comes with six liveries. However, Novawing24 has produced some nice repaints, including an Orca which is highly recommended! Please download and install these from here.
    • Blimp: This is supplied as an unfinished work-in-progress pre-release version 0.1. CAVEAT EMPTOR! This 1942 example of the K-class was used as an antisubmarine aircraft. It has a very attractive vintage model, with an almost steampunk gondola. It is a little slower than the Zeppelin. Beware: this blimp is ponderous to maneuver when landing. THIS BLIMP DOES NOT WORK IN DIRECTX 10 PREVIEW.
    • Both: Please practice and get used to landing, taking-off and parking into wind, well ahead of time. :eagerness:
I will be flying the Zeppelin NT in Novawings's red "Holden" livery (just because it stands out as flight lead).

    RESTRICTIONS
    Airships only.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam. We will continue to use Classic in future weeks for the Great 48! until I can assure pilot security for the flight, at which point we'll include Steam in joint Classic/Steam flights, leaving no one behind!

    WEATHER
Server specified default is OK. However...
Recommended: Real-world live weather generators, e.g. FSrealWX lite or Active Sky Next.
    • FSrealWX lite is freeware available in our TeamSpeak file browser.
    • Active Sky Next is payware. It now works for both Steam and Classic.
I'll be using real-world weather (Active Sky Next).

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 and Vector 1.20 good but optional (expensive payware).
Vector users please see recommendations here.
There are no OrbX airports on this flight.

Reminder: Join us in your airship in Classic FSX at KELD for a 9pm eastern departure.

Trivia: Are we being infiltrated? What are these pictures to do with our flight tonight? Answers and guesses during the flight itself please.
