  • GREAT 48! Grand tour of US states. Week #25: Wisconsin - AMPHIBIANS!

    Breezing through the Badger State...

    Week 25: Wisconsin
    KIMT>KAUW>WS13/Y23>KSGS

    FLIGHT PLAN
    • All legs are GPS direct.
    • We'll change course on approach, according to surface wind.
    • Water runways available at KAUW and WS13. If you're flying an amphibian, please use those. Vector users please see note in Scenery section below.
    • If you have a problem with the water runway at WS13, there are grass runways at WS13. Or there is a hard runway at Y23 immediately to the west.
Download the PLN flight plan file here.
Flight plan in tabular form, flight maps and airport diagrams here.

    CRUISE
    Speed: 150 knots
    Altitude: 3,000 ft

    AIRCRAFT
Fast amphibians. Single or dual prop. Capable of at least 150 knots at 3,000 ft.
Amphibians are preferred, but if you really can't fly one, please fly a C-47 instead (available from Storm's OneDrive, Vintage Hangar) and use the hard runways.

    Examples:
    Airplane Maximum speed Download from
    Cessna 208 Amphibian 167 knots FS-freeware
Grumman Goose HD 174 knots AussieX (the default is not fast enough)
Beech model 18 189 knots Storm's Vintage Hangar
    Dornier Seastar 196 knots Premaircraft
Smeiman Stingray (fictional) 249 knots Storm's Modern Oddities
I will be flying the Cessna 208 Amphibian.

    RESTRICTIONS
    • No jets.
    • No seaplanes that aren't amphibians! (Two airports have no water runways.)
    • No non-amphibian except the C-47.
    • Note: The default Grumman Goose is not fast enough. Use the AussieX instead.

    WHICH VERSION, CLASSIC OR STEAM?
We will be using Classic, not Steam. We will continue to use Classic in future weeks for the Great 48! until more critical add-ons are working, at which point we'll move to Steam.

    WEATHER
Fair weather summer. (No frozen water landings!)
Client-side real-weather engines (like Active Sky Next and FSrealWX lite are not recommended this week.

    SCENERY
    Default OK.
Highly recommended: FSgenesis US landclass (inexpensive payware).
FTX Global 1.30 good but optional (expensive payware).
Options for Vectors users. The water strip for WS13 airport is much shorter in Vector than in default (see screenshots below). You can:
    • Land on it anyway, keeping to the western end.
    • Land on a hard runway, either at WS13 or at Y23 (see screenshots below).
    • Switch Vector off temporarily by unchecking ORBX!VECTOR_OBJ, ORBX!VECTOR_APT, ORBX!VECTOR_CVX and ORBX!VECTOR_EXX in your Scenery library. (You can recheck them after the flight.)
If you do have Vector switched on, please see recommendations here.

RECOMMENDED SCENERY ADDITIONS FOR FTX GLOBAL USERS
You can download the whole series of freeware FTX global airport packs here.
Start and final airports (KIMT and KSGS) are Orbx airports.:eagerness:
